Increase in minimum wage
Up to 7.25 mabye. I think its a bad idea. It will have a - effect on our economy.

I'll agree with that except lets change it to all politicans.
Those on minimum (if there actually are any) stay the same.
Those making a little more don't get raises to match so they lose.
Those on fixed incomes lose.
The economy suffers.
Companys lose customers then raise prices to make up the losses.
Companys lose more customers
Companys go under because their product is overpriced.
Offshore businesses take over. (with inferior but affordable products)
Politicans blow more smoke!
Country go's down the hole!
Anybody see a pattern here?

Voters are the biggest idiots of all because we don't demand that politicans act with the countrys best interests in mind! Instead of their own private agendas! (lining their pockets)

Don't forget ... increased wages means increased tax's withheld too!
22% of 5.25 is $1.155 paid in tax
22% of 7.25 is $1.595 paid in tax
The way I see it, our government just got a .44 cent raise for every hour worked at minimum wage ...0 -

The concept may have some validity, but after taking even the Standard Deduction, a worker making minimum wage is not going to pay anywhere near 22% on every dollar they make.[:)]0 -
Ok ... well, what ever the percentage is! Like another poster so eloquently said:
"I haven't made minimum wage since Hi Skule."
Whatever the percentage is, it will result in considerably higher taxes paid and although the worker will get it back in the end, the IRS gets to use it interest free until the worker files his taxes and gets their refund.0 -

That works fine in big cities but it's a real killer in small towns. They already have higher retail prices than many, whos businesses will only need a small hike in prices to compensate. It will make a large price gap between small towns and cities making the towns less able to compete will nearby cities contributing to a spiraling decline in business and businesses that keep them alive.0 -
Over all its a bad idea for the very reasons stated above. I'll pay more for the things and services that I buy so that some high school kid can buy baggy pants made in Asia and irritating rap (crap) cds. 0 -
And the slave labor will continue to pour in from 'cross the southern border, killing even more of these minimum wage positions in favor of an even lower wage paid to illegals, which will in turn increase the number of unemployed and jobless U.S. citizens, thereby increasing the strain on the social welfare state, ultimately translating into votes for the socialist liberals that will remain in power till HELL freezes over, because the idiot voters keep putting these asses in office! My first filling station job was for .95 Cents an hour. It was a Sunoco station and the owner won some kind of clean station award. I worked one week and even sweeped the bays out but when he came and said I had to clean the toilets, I quit. Minimum wage went up to 1.60 an hour in a few months.0 -
some thing most people forget about is that SS and medicare tax has no deduction
employees have 7.45% taken out of their check which is matched by what the employer pays in which is also 7.45% of gross
so at $5.25 the employee has withheld
$0.39
and the employer pays the same
$0.39
but at $7.25 hour its
$0.54 that each has to pay or an increase of .30 cents per hour that the government gets , thats $2.40 per person per 8 hour shift that will come into SS , that can and will be alot
also on top of the increase in wage, you have to firgure its going to cost that employer that extra .15 /hour to SS but it will also cost them for state and federal unemployment and the bigger cost will be workmanscomp
which can run as high as .50 on the dollar if its a higher risk job like say logging
so if you look at it from the employers side its going to up his costs a bunch0 -
