Gotta gloat
Last Saturday produced this for me,took all of 20 minutes,50' away and dropped where I shot him.1/2 mile from the house.
Today was pheasant opener in Iowa,went over to where a friend was combining corn and shot my limit as well as his and one for his hired man.
Model 31 Remington, Solid Rib,28"full. Had a triple and 2 doubles.
This little guy had way to much fun,I made it pretty easy for him as they all hit the ground dead.

Shot looks WAY high, and WAAAYYY back... Good thing U "SPINED" him..
Should eat well...Musta knocked a few "points" off his head too.
That dude wouldda been a MONSTER in 2 more years.

Actually the shot entered behind the last rib and exited right beside the 3rd vertebrae up from his shoulders destroying his liver,lungs and rupturing his heart.-0- Meat or bone damage.I waited until he quartered away from me to shoot him.This is a meat deer I don't hunt for trophy deer and I don't shoot does.
As far as gutting deer where they lay that's fine but under the light with running water and all the by product in an old galvanized wash tub is my method of preference.Then out to the field for coyote bait 200 yards from the bench.
And we don't weigh deer in Iowa0 -

Speaking of Iowa, I heard a lady on the radio this afternoon talking about your state. She was the spokesman for a family singing group. She introduced each member of the group then said "We live in Iowa. Somebody has to live there and it just happens to be us." Looks like a pretty good place to live to me. [:)]0 -

I think you must of shot every pheasant in Iowa. Since CRP began, the numbers dwindled. [:(] When I was a kid here in southern Iowa you could easily fill your daily bag limit by noon. Now you can walk all day around here and be lucky to have a hen jump up. 0 -

Those Remington 31's are some very ignored, under-appreciated guns.
I buy one every chance I get. If I see one at the gun-show tomorrow I'm now motivated to get another.0 -

Quite few reasons,1 propagation of the species,ie. the same reason I don't shoot hens.2 It bugs the crap outa my father(Who asked me why I did'nt wait until 3 of them lined up) who absolutely despises deer cuz they wreck his trees and pick ups[8D].
3 The dogs really enjoy chewing on the horns and even the small racks last for months.
4 I'm sure there is an element of testosterone involved[;)]
Here's a few more,none of them were over 50 yards away 1 was taken with my old recurve at 112'out the door of the cabin and all within 1/2 mile of the house0
