I'm no longer just another unemployed bum, I'm a local artist. One of the stores in town has an area they turned into an art gallery for local artists. They have two of my Elk antler cribbage boards and two of my hand carved Indian stone peace pipes. They get a lot of tourists stopping in and sell mostly to them.

As of today we have a mortgage, the first of several I suspect.60 yards away from the best fishing Iowa has to offer and we own the water.300+ acres of 7 foot tall switch grass, pheasants as thick as rats in a granary.I celebrated by buying 2 more guns.I think I'm excited,I'll have to look up the definition of that to make sure[8D]

I am just curious, what is an acre of this type farm land in Iowa worth, not including the house?

The price of tillable land in the midwest is at best in a a state of flux,6 years ago prime well drained land was around 2300/ acre .With 1.50 corn people thought that was crazy.Today with 4.00 corn due to ethanol, land prices are still climbing.A parcel of 160 acres went for 6200./ acre a month ago. This was 35 miles from where we are.As soon as the gavel dropped the buyer went up to the auctioneer and said to auction the lease/rent.It went for 320/acre(VS.150 tops 6 years ago). The land of which I speak is owned by our family and was bought in the late 70's.The majority is highly erodable but can be farmed. If one was to buy farm land with the intention of building an acerage/house you have to buy at least 10 acres. Most farmers don't like to work around corners so the cost is at premium.10X the cost per acre as it is acessed plus whatever the owner wants for the inconvienience(SP).On a side note,If you can't handle the smell of hog fooey Iowa is'nt for you.ST

I'll consider a possible hunt in the form of a giveaway here in a couple months. With regard to "pay to hunt" I've never done that and don't intend to start. The only payment required is accepting the invitation.Be warned I will work your sorry butt off out there to insure that we have a body count and a good time (In that order). The property is located roughly 50 miles east and 10 miles south of S.D. and Minn. respectively.Bear that in mind as you consider.Maybe I'll
set up a race and the first 4 there get to hunt while the rest of the contestants entertain themselves with some adult beverages and these. There are 3 more racks of guns I forget where I put em' right now[;)]Oh yeah,Lets not forget the worlds oldest juvinile delingquent will be there as well. That'd be DAD[8D]

I may have to come out just to see your tractors . Pretty cool.....

My wifes cousin in Italy has a Lamborgini tractor , still not as cool as those .

Better keep looking for the other guns , don't see any real workhorses ( SxS's) in that lot . [;)]
