A little over a pack a day for the last 31 years!

Good idea! I am already doing better, still got cravings but it's not as bad as it was last couple of days. Don't know who goes through what but when I deprive myself of nicotine first couple of days it feels like I came up too fast from a free dive.

Good luck, it ain't all that hard actually.

Have you ever tried cutting down one or two cigs a day, until you don't have so much nicotine in your system, before trying to quit?
Also, is it a " hand habit", or a nicotine addiction mainly?
Never smoked, but I have watched many people quit, or try to quit.
    Good Luck though![;)]

Kevin- If you are truly fed up with smoking, you can quit. There is no question whether you can do it or not. You can. [^]

    * It was two years for me July 1st (after 35 years of smoking). [;)]

    +1
7 years (has it been that long?)
Find something to do with your hands & mouth, tooth picks, coffee stirs,
suckers, whatever, the hand & mouth habit is almost as hard to quit as the smoke!

If you want to, you will...first off, dont do anything you usually do when you smoke...if you smoke while on here, do something else...if you smoke after dinner, go for a walk etc..

I quit with help---welbutrin-- still have no cravings for it...and it will be 4 yrs..well it WAS four years in may...my god I cant believe its been that long...

5 years for classic...fall of 2002 in the hospital....

We both hate the weight gain..but my dr told me bout 6 months ago when I complained about the weight gain...

His words.."With your blood pressure and pulse, I dont give a damn about your weight gain"

    BP 114/65

If you dont quit for yourself, quit for your kids....they want and need their dad around for a very long time...plus you will be able to taste what put that smile on your son's face eating those ribs....

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

I quit on March 9, 1994 when my son was born. Figured I wanted to live long enough to see him grow up. Not going to kid ya though. IT IS HARD!!! Suckers helped me more than about anything.

I'm 61 and never smoked so I can't relate to the difficulty involved in stopping cold turkey. However, I believe if you want to bad enough, you can do it. Also, it will be a blessing for your children. Best of luck!

I do got some Skol on hand to help the nicotine withdwawls and I also got lots of peanuts and sunflowerseeds that used while I was doing the coaching thing for tball and could not smoke.

I know I can do it! But I also know that it will not be easy!

There's a new pill out that the doc's prescribed to my dad after he had his heart attack back in March and hasn't smoked since. He smoked for well over 40 years and had no luck (willpower) to quit. He tried Welbutrin but no success. My mom even got a prescription and she's been smoke free for over 3 months. I'm thinking about getting it to quit dipping.

I just looked it up. It's called CHANTRIX.

    It is simple discipline.

If you truly have made the decision, it is done, you have quit. Any other attitude is self-defeating.

Throw away the Skoal, it will simply perpetuate the problem.

Then, after a few months, you will have the money to buy a real, American made, 1911 like a Colt, S & W or Kimber instead of those Filipino wannabees.[:)]

I quit in January after 33 years. After the 2nd day it is really no big deal unless you want it to be.

You can do it GRD! If I could stop, you can. I did it several years ago and I'm so thankful that I did. Good luck!

Kevin, glad you're making that choice. You'll be around a lot longer because of it, and therefore you'll be able to enjoy your kids' lives for longer.

I've been dipping off and on for years.

A can lasts me well past it's due date because I just don't use it much.

THROW IT AWAY!! NOW!!!! You said you don't use too much of it. Yeah, for now. Just wait until you stop smoking and have that laying around. I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE! It is MUCH HARDER to quit smokeless tobacco than cigarettes! You are already making excuses for yourself. That is not good. "Hey, I can just do a dip or two of Skoal and get over the withdrawals." NO YOU CAN'T! The only way to get over the withdrawals is to LAST THEM OUT! Then you will get over them...eventually. But using skoal as a crutch is not a good idea!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT...the sunflower seeds aren't a bad idea though. Found some the other day that were "dill pickle" flavored. Not bad!

Good luck man. It truly is one hard thing to quit. Even after about 20 years now I still have the craving for a Kool. They just killed me though when I smoked so it was more than the right thing to do to quit. It is truly a battle you have to always fight to win AFTER smoking the first one. They were designed to do that to you and that is why the tabacco companys are fighting a losing battle. I just wanted to try and be around many more years enjoying the things I love. Have lost many good friends over the years that never could give up. Kevin it will be one of the most important tasks you ever have done in your life if you make it. YOU can do it. Read everyones comments here several times because they are ALL right on.

When you get the urge...and you will, you need to think of your next smoke as being the one that will give you cancer. That worked for me.
