AKC help
My brother in law's lab died three days ago and he is heart broken to say the least. D was truely a one of a kind dog, My question is, is it possible to trace a dogs lines forward? We have his original AKC pedigree papers, with all the sires and dams. We have his registration no. and ortho numbers, tats, etc.. My BIL never had his dog mated but would it be possible to find out if any littermates had been bred. As I talked to the BIL he sounded like he would like another pup but would especially like one from D's bloodlines. We have called the original breeder but he is no longer listed. Would the AKC be able to help us trace this liniage forward? Thanks for the help

they could, but the question is "would" they, it's all about cash with them, but the only way to find out is call them 0 -
If his dog came from a breeder/show background, get it touch with those folks. I raised/showed Bullmastifs for 20 years and I kept track of where my pups went. Others do also so you can follow generation after generation. Call them. 0 -
for the dog to be AKC registered, both his mom & dad also had to be registered, and the litter has a number for it in the AKC records. if you have the AKC papers for your dog it will say the litter number.
it's not required to register any dog from a litter with the AKC.
if his littermates were registered just like he was (very probable), the AKC will have records on them; they will have the same litter number; the AKC knows all the littermates.
whether they will give you that info I don't know. maybe not due to privacy issues, I don't know. call and ask, give them thelitter number.0 -
Have your BIL contact these folks with the litter number if he has it. Dedicated breed clubs can be a wealth of information.
Give your BIL my condolences and wish him luck for me.0 -
Asphalt cowboy, is there a specific club or phone number to call? 0 -
there's clubs all over the place, local, regional and national. a local club would be more likely to help. need to do some googling for your area. 0 -
