Fine Dining RANT!!
Why is it that now days food isn't any good unless you drop 75-100 bucks a plate?
I over herd some coworkers in the office this morning talking about how their $75 a plate dinner was to dye for. (I hear this about once a week.) what makes a $75 meal, better than $20 meal. it sure as hell isn't the portions.
I have only been out "fine dining" twice and the company payed for both. Honestly i'd rather have gone to a good steak house. I didnt find the food tasted better just because they charged more for it.
Then there is the sushi bar. I hate to break it to them but the (free) salmon out of the river here taste just as good as their $45 salmon roll.
WHY, WHY, WHY, I don't get it.

Bobski summed it up pretty good.
Maybe it is because I live in the heart of cattle country that I take it for granted I can get a superb 16oz ribeye meal for around $12.00.
I have heard steak is very expensive on the coasts. Sounds like it is true.0 -
A ham sandwich for .75 cents will make a turd just as good as "fine cuisine!"

I have never spent $75.00/plate for for or made the company do it either!! And my best meals have been with Good Friends, Good Company and Comraderie!! Doesn't make any difference if it is one of those chicken wraps or tuna wraps from the fast food place or the sushi rolls from that little hole in the wall sushi bar near Baltimore or the great 4 course meal in Miles City Montana that costed a whole $52.05/5!! ..........or even a heat up meal from the microwave in a Hampton Inn as long as it's with people I enjoy and there's one of them in particular!!![;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)]GHD PS: Watch out for her black beans!![:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] 0 -

+1
I have had the $100 plate meals before. Some look the part, the setting is right, and the food tastes like crap. I have a few places around here that I would put my cooking up against theirs any day an it still goes unchallenged with two of them.[}:)][8D][;)][:D] (People I know.)0 -
Oh forgot to add, one place can't even plank a salmon right! I got a chard piece crap! AAARRGGGGGG! 0 -
i mean seriously.....dont we make a statement when we go to a range? arent we telling the world what we are by what we shoot?
dont we pick what we shoot based on what range we go to?
same with fine dining. would halfway house be a good place to close a business deal? maybe not. maybe something with wood paneled walls and green felt might be better.
lunch with the boss? you best know what the boss likes and choose the place correctly.
its not about once a year...its about living a certain lifestyle that allows it and being able to afford it, so why not?
me? 3 times a week? no. sorry. but if i needed to cheer the wife, its best to always have a special place in mind...and to forget the cost.
dining out to me is like buying a nice gun....i see if it fits, observe the wood to metal fit, look for dings, and THEN check the tab. if i know what im looking at, im confident. [8D] its just like food. oh and btw...20 minutes is the standard time in between courses, to allow your food to pass thru your gut. eat less, still feel full, and spend the rest of the time at your table making memories, instead of passing gas and falling asleep from being stuffed.[:I][:p]0 -
$250 + tip once for the wife and me, and it was worth every penny. Best meal I have ever had. Excellent service, a beautiful restaurant, and simply incredible food. I have never regretted spending that money.
Hey, think about it this way: a Mossberg slug gun will kill a deer, and so will a Dakota rifle. But no way in hell are they the same.0 -

No! bj's and cigars are free, the plate is $25 more.[:D]
There are 4 or 5 resturants here in gunnison county, CO. in which you can give them $75 or more and they will give you $15 dollars worth of food and a side of Bu11stuff.
I hope the Cattleman is not one of them. That is if it is still there.0 -
Sushi would be MUCH better bait if they'd just leave the skin on it.

$75? That will buy a nice bottle of wine to go along with dinner. 0 -

damn i cant see spending 75.00 a plate. fine dinning to me is 20.00 a plate at a good steak house. most of the time it's home cooked meals unless were in the city for a doctors appointment them we may hit a restaurant but then its only cost 10 a piece usually burgers and salad bar. i cant see spending money like that on food. i cringe just thinking about spending 100 on groceries for a week or two.. 0
