Wild Chickens everywhere!
In one of my classes today a classmate was giving a presentation on corporate social responsibility. He was talking about KFC and how PETA was trying to shut them down. He was pro meat and exposed PETA as terrorists.
Another classmate started defending PETA and a couple of us brought up the point that the billions of chickens in the world would not even be alive if not raised for food. She said yes they would. She told us all farmers in the world should release all the chickens today and let them revert back to the wild.
We tried to tell her they would not exist in the wild and only exist now due to domestication and food purposes. She could not comprehend what we were saying. She is convinced that all the captive chickens that have been eaten and will be eated in the future would exist in the wild.
Maybe I am wrong and the world was overun by wild chickens before we locked them all in cages but I do know one thing for sure. You can't argue with a liberal they are incapable of seeing past their bias.

Now you know why I am going to school[:D]0 -
Let all the chickens out and the predators will have it easy for a couple years, then when the chickens got scarce, what will the "baby boom" in coyotes, wolves, ect turn to for food?

That's what I was tinkin', Dongizmo. 0 -
I'll be damned if I would ever allow marauding bands of freed chickens to pillage and enslave Humankind to do their petty poultry bidding.[:(!] 0 -
I agree, they are bred for eating. I can't normally agree with PETA but I watched a video on youtube once and it was a REAL eye opener as to what they go through before they're killed. It's nothing like you'd imagine. Not that every facilities the same but they showed typically what it's like for them and it's a pretty miserable, deformed life.
They don't grow right. They get their beaks cut so they don't kill each other, which they claim is painful to the animals.
On top of that, they had a hidden video camera capture some sick SOBs working at one of the slaughter houses throwing them against the wall and marching around stomping on them for the thrill of it.
Even their standard practice of killing them isn't all that humane as after they are de-feathered and attached to hooks upside down, they all automatically have their throats cut by machinery. But, while they're spinning, some get missed so some remain alive to be boiled to death.
I don't support PETA but in KFC's case (and yes, I know not every KFC uses the same supplier) it's not hard to see why they're screaming about it.0 -
BTW, freeing them to the wild is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. Some of them can't even walk because they're so top heavy. If they were going to do that, they wouldn't breed them to begin with.
People have been getting rich off KFC for decades. I wouldn't expect them to give it up anytime soon.0 -
I don't know if the chicken farmers rip the beaks off or just clip it. I do know beaks are like finger nails and I've trimmed a few bird beaks ('cos the owner didn't provide the pumice or cuttlefish bone).
I do wonder if chickens would go ferrel like pigs or turkeys? After a few generations out in the wild they'd make a interesting stalk. Bagging a 10 pound broiler and live to tell the tale[:D].0 -
Who wants to go chicken huntin?!?!?! 0
