    ...The going rate around here is $45-$50 bucks. I do my own 03 transfers. I changed 01's a year ago. I now pay $10, and have the best FFL in the world...and it's not because ot the $10 fee; he's just a great guy...[;)]

    We charge $20.00 (plus 10.00 for background check)per firearm...Done three (3X) yesterday ...seems to be the reasonable going rate ...
    FOID card ??? are you in Illinois ??? if so UNLUCKY You .........

    FFL fees can vary wildly depending on where you live. Around here I have seen dealers offtring transfers for $5 (he must be hoping to get people coming back for more purchases cause he sure ani't making a profit on transfers) to $50. I have heard of some FFLs asking $100.

    After being an FFL dealer for 9 years I know it takes more than 5 minutes to do a transfer. I charged $25 and did a lot of them but I figured I had nearly an hour of my time invested after making the order, receiving the package, storing the item until customer pick-up, doing the paperwork, etc.

    The lesson here is ask first. Make sure the FFL is OK with shipment from a non-FFL is that's what is going to happen and make sure you know all costs up front.

    IMO $50 is on the high side and I would look for someone cheaper. But paying an extra $25 is a fairly minor tragedy and if it's the worst thing that happens to you this week it will be a pretty good week, no?

    I guess you learned your lesson.

    $50 + ftip for a transfer fee is pretty standard in IL. Maxon's where I used to work, would not transfer in new guns. Fee was $50 + ftip for used guns transfered in. Occasionally a customer would try to sneak in a new gun on a FFL transfer. Their fee would be $100 + ftip.

    I think The Gun Doctor http://www.gundr.com/ has one of the lowest transfers in the area at $38. However you can sometimes find even lower if you can find a guy just starting out.

    There's several Illinois guys listed charging 15-20 dollars. Just call a few of them and confirm ahead of time that the posted informations up to-date.

    I've used TWS with no problems for 20 dollars. If your willing to drive to Cook pull a zip code search on 60453

    Actually that is what I used, he is the second one down for area code 60050. His rate states $35 plus $5 NCIS, I will have to ask him about it when I go pick it up.
