Hand gun
Im looking to buy a handgun. A 9mm, 40 calibur, or 45. Im going to police acadamy and will be doing a lot of shooting. It will also be my duty gun. What would be the best to buy. A smith n wesson is what i am leaning towards. And is there any good online stores with pretty resonable prices?

You must not be able to read. I said the academy had a regulation on there handgun. Let say it again. 9, 40, or 45. I have a 357 sig. But I cant use it at the academy.0 -

Glock in .40
CZ 75 in 9mm
all depends on what you are most comfortable with, 9mm is good for lots of shooting but 45 has more stoping power for a duty gun, and 40 is right in the middle but i would def. take XD in .450 -
when i went to s2 security and intelligence training the guy who taught the class was a retired police officer, he said cops under pressure shooting only hit 1 out 4 shots on target, so the 45 gives you 8 rounds, consider that 2-3 hits, 9mm could give you 4-5 hits and a .40 around 3-4 hits. But it all depends on you, i would say hit a range, rent a few guns, find what fits you best and then make your decision. 0 -

Limited number or not, most still do not allow firearms other than their own.
Depends on where you live. Down here there are a few agencies with a carry your own policy. I've officers from the same Dept. with everything from 1911's to Sigmas. Also sown here the academies do not provide you with firearms. It is the responsibility of the Dept. Thus if you work for a Dept. that doesn't provide you with a firearm and attend an academy that doesn't then you provide your own.
My advice to this young man would be to find another profession. If he still wants this often thankless job then see what the other guys at the Dept. have and see if you like them. If not go to a range and try several out.
BTW if I could carry my own I would probably get a Taurus PT-92. Dependable, accurate, plenty of parts and accessories as well.0 -
