Mauser sight hood?

Hey guys,
Were there only certain years or production lines that put sight hoods on the german mauser. Mine is from 1940 and doesnt seem to have the front sight machined for the hood.

  In general the Germans started putting the sight hood on starting in 1941. This was a gradual process and it is possible that some late 1940 guns had them and some early mfg 1941 did not. If the gun has the milled out area on the front sight base it is supposed to have the hood, if not then it was not intended to have one. I have seen some early guns that have had the sight base milled for the hood but don't know who did it.
