Listening to a doctor on the radio...a laymans method of determining a possible stroke victim.
Time is of the essence...patient MUST get to the hospital within 3 hours to possible prevent permanent damage.
Q; Treatment must begin within 3 hours.
R; RAISE both arms..both should raise to shoulder level easily.
S: SMILE...should strech equally both sides of the mouth. Stick tongue out and move side to side and up and down...should be equal movements.
T; TALK...question the subject...confused, garbled statements could indicate a stroke.
Once again...speed is of the utmost urgency for a stroke victim..and 'better be safe then sorry' in these cases.

ALSO- some stroke victims don't know they are having a stroke, and will actually become combative when you step up and demand they speak with you or smile.
Many times, a stroke victim will have a feeling of imminent doom or complain of "a crushing weight in/on the chest"; observe signs of deep and full breaths or rapid breathing.
Human physiology being what it is, if they're having a panic attack instead of a stroke, the face and/or neck may flush or redden; a diminished blood flow won't cause this.
Time is definitely not on your side if the victim waits more than an hour before seeking treatment; it may take 30 minutes to reach qualified care AFTER the ambulance arrives, and the Magic Hour starts at the onset of the stroke!
Please don't take this out of context, but if you haven't had your heart and brain tested before (even if just to establish a baseline); get with your Doctor and schedule yourself ASAP.
You need a minimum of a baseline EKG and EEG done by age 35 if you're in normal shape, and by age 48 you should have another set done to see if there's any unknown damage (including a ct/mri); that hangover may have been something a little more serious than you thought.
I had an episode 3 years ago that got me worried, so I requested the tests be done. They both showed that there was; potential damage to the wall of the aorta, and a small "dead spot" near my right temple (there was that incident with the crowbar...), which may have been caused by that episode. Since it shows that spot to be responsible for sex appeal in my Book of Phrenology; I don't think I'll miss it.0 -

Add to that to raise both eyebrows.
The clue to a stroke is weakness or unevenness on either side of the body on any of the test you mentioned or the ones I added, or slurred, difficult or stuttered speech.
I wish I had known this when Sandy Had her stroke. The symptoms are less in the beginning, and I thought she was just sleepy. We didn't get the treatment within the 3 hour window, and everyday I look at her, I know it's my fault for not being more attentive to the early signs.[V]0 -

Another thing is as a preventative thing, anyone can start the 81mg asprin regiment any time. Why wait?? I did just recently cause my father has had 2 strokes. 0
