Why I like Texas
I was asked one time why I liked Texas. My answer was it wasn't as much the state as the people who lived there. The guy didn't get it. Here's an example,
A fellow I've known for a few years doesn't have much money, but is a hard working honest man. He had the opportunity to go elk hunting for free, but didn't have a gun big enough for Elk. I loaned him a Savage 30.06 with a 3-9 Nikon scope for the hunt. They went a couple of weeks ago and he got his elk.
Today, he came by and brought us half of the elk he had processed. Lots of polish sausage, lots of breakfast sausage, lots of summer sausage, lots of hamburger, lots of steaks and chicken fried steaks, and four roasts. He wouldn't take no for an answer (it will take us a year to eat all of this) and said he could never repay me for the fun he had.
I love Texans!
PS, The jalape?o polish sausage and summer sausage are great! I've already eaten a stick of each!

Good story, Im afraid real Texans are going the way of the DODO, Texas will look like Cali. in 20 years, too many urbanite yuppies types moving here from all over. 0 -

thats a great story! Neighbors taking care of neighbors! Love hearing that stuff! Reminds me of Jimmy Stewart and "its a wonderfull life," one of my favorite movies.[^] 0 -
Mrs. likemhot was born and raised in South Texas and so was her family. Not snowbirds, illegals or Yankees. True honost to goodness Texans and without a doubt, some of the nicest people on the planet.
A few years back, likemhot jr. and I spent some time on a hunting lease with my brother-in-law and a few of his friends. Lh.jr. was invited to shoot a pig but I didn't bring his rifle. My bro-in-law's friend pipes in and says lh jr. can use mine. I'll pick you up in the a.m and you can use my heated blind. Now keep in mind I never met this gentleman before, lh jr is around 8 years old, and he lends an 8 year old his rifle. We get to the blind in the morning and Charlie sets lh jr up with a custom rifle, with set triggers, a saworvski (sp) scope, a hand full of ammo, in a blind that I would be proud to call home, and tells him to watch the north sendero pigs run across it all the time, then he heads back to camp for coffee and tells me this is jrs hunt and for me not to shoot anything. When we get back to camp in the afternoon I am nothing but grateful for this old Texan to trust my son with his equipment, in his blind. Charlie tells me later, "I watched your son around camp for the last few days and I knew he was brought up proper. We're still friends to this day.
Mr. Heff is right, Cowboy justice, dyed-in-the-wool beliefs, family values, and southern charm. I'm proud to call them family.0
