Newbie question............

Hey guys I got a good deal on some shotgun slugs for my Remington 870 express magnum. The problem is that the slugs are rifled and one box is hollow point slugs. My barrel is not rifled and i just wanted to make sure that these are safe to shoot without doing damage to the gun. If memory serves correct they will be fine but I just wanted to confirm.

    yea i think rifled slugs expand a litle and spin themselves out of your barrel.

    Sabot slugs are for rifled barrels.
    Both kinds come in a HP desigh, so the bit about one box being HP's doesn't tell us anything.

    Sorry, here is more info. Both are Winchester brand, one is 12g 2-3/4 Rifled Slugs Hollow Point 1oz slug, 1600 fps. The other is 12g 3" Magnum rifled 1 oz. slugs, 1760 fps.

    You would be safe even if you were to shoot sabots. They would NOT be very accurate though.

    Rifled slugs through a smoothbore is the correct combination.

    I use the Winchesters in my smooth bore slug barrel. Puts them on the money.

    You will be fine.

    Rifled slugs will not spin through a smooth bore barrel.

    Their design allows the bullet to expand which in turn allows the lands and grooves of the bullet to catch the lands and grooves of the barrel causing it to spin like a regular riffle bullet. It also makes them more accurate.

    Hell, I even shoot rifled slugs through my rifled barrel. Lead is softer than steel, and it's cheaper ammunition. Killed many deer at a good distance with that combo.
