The Senators comments got me thinking....
Several Senators have said our current immigration laws are not enforceable or workable. Well shucks by golly; why don't they take the parts that are a problem and correct the deficiencies in current law? Why the headlong rush to shove new laws down our throats?

There is a BIG difference between the law that was passed and its implementation policy. If the bureaucrats use flawed policy to enforce the new law, nothing gets done. That is the situation we have now. It is jumbled up due to court rulings and most of all; enforcement policies. It was designed to fail from the start by a lot of the very senators that try to jamb new laws at us.
If the Senate would correct some aspects of the 20 year old immigration law it would have plenty of teeth to get the job done. A simple change in penalties would be very helpful. Right now it is a misdemeanor to cross our border illegally. Change that clause to be a felony and a plethora of problems go away. The illegal can be detained and quickly deported, no more tickets to appear. No more catch and release. The penalty for the first offence can be codified as immediate deportation. A second offence is stiff jail time and permanent banning from the USA. It would also give the border guards more protection when they shoot some bad guy; he was a fleeing felon. Now he is a dead felon, problem solved.
No more anchor babies from illegals. You are outta here with your rat kid until you follow the law, you MUST pay the hospital bill for the birth before your application for a green card will be approved.
Border fences and surveillance is already funded to the tune of several billion bucks. Build the darn thing where it would do the most good and least environmental damage. Use electronic measures and foot patrols elsewhere. When finding a illegal border entry give them the standard for other criminals, prints, photos, and on the buss back.
We have literally millions of pages of federal law. one would think in all of those pages there is enough code to close our borders and make sure we know who is arriving and leaving. When some azzhat over stays his visa; the feds need to be looking for them with high priority.
We do not require NEW law we need to refine the failed policy used to enforce current law.

Just check out the Drug wars in Mexico and the drugs are coming to a city near you and our government isn't doing much to stop it. 0
