Is "Jesus Is Coming Soon" A Good Reason To Be Apathetic?

When responding to my pleas for Christians to get involved in helping to save the liberty and independence of these United States, I hear so many say, "All we can do is pray and win souls. After all, this is the fulfillment of prophecy, and Jesus is coming soon." When I hear Christians say those words, I want to scream.
Regardless of when Christ returns, He gave us clear instructions to "Occupy till I come." To use the coming of Christ as an excuse to passively allow today's neocons, liberals, and globalists to undermine and destroy our country's heritage and future is inexcusable.
With a desire to encourage Christians to realize their responsibility and, yes, obligation, to aggressively resist those forces working to turn America into Huxley's Brave New World (which is nothing more than the modern attempt to create the ancient Tower of Babel), I recently preached a message entitled "Occupy Till I Come." Interestingly enough, Jesus spoke those words upon hearing that the disciples expected Him to immediately set up His Kingdom.
In other words, Jesus was telling the disciples that, regardless of when He would establish His Kingdom on the earth, they had a job to do! That message still holds true for Christians today.

Have you read Jesus' Sermon on the Mount?
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:38-42)
Jesus was an advocate of non-violent resistance. If someone wanted to rob you of your tunic, Jesus said to give him your cloak as well. He also commands you not to resist an evil person, to turn the other cheek if someone strikes you.0 -

Praying and Jesus never stopped WWI, WWI, Korea or the genocide in various African countries. Praying and Jesus never stopped the Nazis from killing 6 million Jews, including many of them being buried alive after being shot with small caliber guns, or burned to death alive in the ovens. Praying and Jesus never stopped the Nazis from making lamp shades from pale female skin or womens' gloves from the skin of hairy men's chests. Praying and Jesus never stopped the Nazis from tying pregnant women's legs together to see how long it would take them to die from labor. Praying and Jesus does not stop sick criminals from torturing, raping, and murdering people including very young children. The Christian theme of non-violent resistance is what has allowed a lot of evil to happen over history. You must face it and defeat it, not just pray like weaklings, for prayer does nothing. 0 -
I know that praying had a lot to do with putting an end to the situations you mention. If you were in any of these movements, especially as a military person, you would have felt prayer all about you. Not to dwell on the prayers from those whose loved ones were in harm's way for them to come home safely. 0 -

I don't really have an opinion on the ACLU either way. They defend stuff I do not agree with sometimes, sometimes they defend stuff I do agree with (see the other thread where I posted that the ACLU was helping the SAF defend access to their website at Washington public libraries). I don't generally keep track of what they do and have not done much research into them so I don't really feel qualified to offer an opinion on them as a whole.0 -

The men in combat and their families probably did a lot of praying, but it was the men that stopped the evil, not the praying. All the praying that was done BEFORE the fighting started did not end the evil. All the praying that was done by the Jews did not stop the Nazis from killing 6 million of them. All the praying that was done by the Russians did not stop Stalin from killing millions of them. All the praying did not stop the Kymer Rouge from killing millions: men via gun shot, women via cutting their throats after being raped, children via bashing their heads against trees. Don't bother, I am fine without your prayer. I believe in God and Jesus, but I also believe that one has to protect themselves and theirs, as prayer does not protect you. One is supposed to pray for the will of God to be done. Not what you want done!
Eye for an eye means if some takes your property then you have the right to have it returned.
Turn your cheek is because the Romans would strike the Jews with the back of their hand, which is the way one strikes a dog. So you turn your cheek so that as the Roman brings his hand back he would strike you as a man.
Don't fundamentalists ever check anything out? Oh, I forgot their faith is not in God but in a book that has been edited by everyone who has had control of it.0 -

By spreading the gospel and teaching His parables to instill principals, and caring for widows and orphans, etc.
However, we should not have the pastors of churches immersed in politics and co-ercing the membership to surrender their will and their vote to him. Politics is for the commons and the townsquare, the media and the grapevine. The Church is about the Word.
Keeping the individual's right to a private ballot is every bit as important as our rights under the second amendment.
Preachers and pastors should be very careful not to substitute political fervor for love of the Word of God as the motive for and subject of their discourse with the congregation.0 -

He will not stop a man from pulling the trigger, nor will he stop you. God gave you free choice, the power to think and do as you please. It is obvious you are not doing so well.
