When he clocked me I was only doing 81 in a 70. He wrote me down for 80 in a 70, that's one point instead of three.

A good ole Suzuki. They are great bikes.
Sounds like a good ride. 580 miles in one day is a lot of riding.

If you have a backrest on your bike and a small luggage rack you can get some inexpensive nylon tourmaster luggage that will carry most of what you need. Ours carries enough stuff for two people for short trips. I will attach a picture.

The wife and I are flying into Billings MT in August, renting a Harley at Beartooth Harley and riding down to sturgis for the big rally. Come on down and say Hi!

I wanted to add that 580 miles in one day on a bike is a ton of miles. Speaks to youth that you can stand that. My butt gets so sore after 300 miles that I have to stop.[:0]

Like pickenup my days of 850-1000 miles a day are over, and even then on each succeeding day the mileage got shorter. I have done the Souix Falls to Rapid City run by never have been in ND. Sounds like a fine trip, and great miles for the hours. Keep the shiny side up!

Did my 1000 mile day when I was 22 on an '80 GS1100. Your 1000 is one rock solid motor.
A little perspective......In '80 the GS1100 was the baddest kid on the block with 86HP at the crank. Today's 600's are in the 105-110HP range.....at the rear wheel! On top of that they weigh 100LB less!

A few friends and I started an Iron Butt last summer. Got over 3/4 of the way when the guy on a full dress Harley put it down going around a curve. Messed his bike up and he had a serious concussion. He was only wearing one of those skid pan type tiny little helmets that just cover the top of your head. Now he wears a full face helmet like the rest of us do.
