Life expectancy for the .45 GAP
Good morning, I was reading some articles on the .45 GAP round and many named gun writers opinions are questioning the life expectancy of the round. Kimber never got on board with it and Springfield stopped production of the XD in .45 ACP. So are two police departments ( New York and Georgia State) enough to pull the GAP through?

I predicted the .45GAP wouldn't last right after it came out. I just saw no point to it against the time-proven .45ACP and the newer .40S&W calibers. I'm sure Glock gave those PD's a great price to get rid of their existing inventories but I think 10 years from now, you'll have a better chance of finding .44 Henry Rimfire ammo than .45GAP. Just my humble opinion. 0 -
Well we all know that the "gun mag experts" are FOS and paid by the advertisers, so their opinion is worthless.
As far as replacing the ACP goes, IT WAS NEVER INTENDED TO.
There are a lot of places in this world where possession of military chambered firearms is a serious crime. The primary market for the GAP is those countries.
A secondary market is those people that want the big bore, but have hands that are to small to wrap around the grips of a ACP framed gun IE: your mother/sister/wife/girlfriend.0 -
I got a Springfield a while back and I like it. I saw the same article in G&A I believe. Whatever, I LIKE mine and will not sell it even if I could. Hel l, if thats the case, it will be collectable in the future and I have one,,,,guess I better get some more ammo though! imo,nammbu 0 -
Pennsylvania State Police just adopted it also, in the Glock 37. Thats another 4500 troopers plus spares. And there are a lot of police depts out west that authorize it. Many depts out west are not uptight like eastern depts are, and they allow their people to carry a lot of different guns and calibers. 0 -
I too think it will go the way of the 44 special.
Nobody knows for sure what will happen. I remember when the 38 super and the 32mag were on the "dead list". Concealed carry permits have changed everything just like cowboy action has brought back the 44-40 and other old western cals.
By the way I think the 44 special is a fine concealed carry revolver.
That big chunk of lead will knock the socks of most attackers and it can be speeded up a bit if you choose.0 -
it doesnt matter what they do in europe, it doesn't matter if many police departments adopt it ether, it will be the next 10mm here, i hated it the moment it was introduced, another case of fixing a none existing problem, it screws up reloading by sneaking onto the range when you pick up your 45 acp brass, and like the 10mm, 44 special, it will be obsolete, and expensive and so will the .357 sig 0 -

10mm is far from obsolete or dead. While it is not as popular as the 9mm or the 45 ACP, it has a very loyal following. As for the 44 special, it is really a useless caliber. The revolvers that chamber 6 rounds of it are too bid for CCW, and the 5 round guns only give you 5 rounds. And the hot 44 special ammo kicks too much for what you get.0
