i have windows vista.
my problem is the other day where you log on and off was down if the lower left corner, now it is up in the upper right corner. i cant figure how to get it back down there

i need to buy a new computer. i have always had dell except for the one i am using now, which is an acer. i really dont care for the acer.
i am looking at the dell INSPIRON 620 MT and the HP that is equal to the dell.
the price for the HP is about $100 more than the Dell for the same thing

Thanks to the help from a couple members here I found a power cord for the computer I have that runs the program DOSS. I have no idea what that is? Can you surf the net with that program? If so do you have desktop shortcuts like windows or how does it work? My nephew will love it if he can get on the internet with it. 0 -

i don't think the one you had will run anything else, and would not really be upgradable to even run windows 3.1, that's why they sell for 9.99 on ebay 0 -
Nighthawk - DOS is an "operating system" not an applications program. Most current micro-processors(central processing units or CPUs) will not run DOS.
Older computers that will run DOS can access the internet, but at very slow speeds, and without the graphics that is the usual standard today.
I am not sure that there are readily available ISPs(Internet Service Providers) that can act as a conduit between computers operating under DOS,and the internet, but I doubt it.
I am sure that someone on the forum who is much brighter than I, could figure out how to do it. But, in the long run it would be wiser to get a used older computer that will run some version of the Windows operating system - which is the present global standard - or the apple operating system.

What sort of hardware does it have? Does it have a CD-ROM? How much memory? You can run Knoppix on a very basic system. It is basically an entire Linux operating system on a CD, you put the CD in the CD drive and run it. It then acts as your operating system, it never even uses the hard drive in the computer. We use it a lot at work, since there is no way for the hard drives to get hacked from the outside, since the hard drives are not even used.

Im gonna be selling a used Dell very soon,.........1.5GHZ Pentium 4 processer 128mb Ram, etc,..........a bit underpowered compared to brand new, but light years ahead of what you obviously have. Bought a new one for my mother,........her Birthday is right before Mothers Day, so I combined them! 0 -

It has 510MB Removable HDD, 1.44MB FDD, 8MB RAM what ever that is. Im wondering since it doesnt have a CD ROM, can my wife put a program on a floppy from a CD and download a program off the floppy to the computer? I certainly hope so or Ive been $$ to death on this thing, and havent got the power cord yet. 0 -

you could theoretically make it work, but you'd spend more time fiddling with it, as someone who does this sorta thing for a living, i'd say scrap this and just spend a few bucks on something like this:

(not necessary ebay and not necessary this particular box, but something alike, make sure to get an OS preinstalled)
better yet, get a Mac, maybe an older Mac -- it's a lot less headaches that anything else.
as for bring this box to get on a network -- you can only run Windows 3.1 on it which is a POS.

not to rain on yoru parade, but in agreement with everyone else, the hardware you have is incredibly outdate, antiquated and generally in no way able to be used for anything useful. dos isnt a point and click interface. its code driven. meaning that you actually write command codes to tell it to do something. the hardware capability of that maching will barely, if at all, be able to run a browser. and if at all, it will run excrutiatingly slowly(sp) for two reasons. the software itself is terrible and the hardware wont support hi speed.
cut your losses. even a p1 level machine is leaps and bounds ahead of your gear. sorry0 -
You guy cant be beat, I appreciate your help. I wonder if it will run a floppy to play games. Thats really what I got it for, you guys are correct Ive spent way to much all in all for this and had to buy a power supply as well. It would have cost me $75.00 for the power cord if it wasnt for my friends here finding one on Ebay for $18.00 + shipping. But it will be worth it if I can get it going for him to play his games on, even if he cant get on the net. 0 -
yes, you could do that. there were a lot of DOS games and you can find plenty of them on the internet for free download. 0 -
The problem with that is, if you have no experience, there is no way you will be able to enter the "command parameters", to run an old game in DOS.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the thing needs to be set out for the next garbage pickup.

I wouldn't just toss the computer, but it is a total waist to you and serves you no practical purpose. Yes you can find gams to play on it but they would have to be made befor 1994 or so. Not the type of thing a kid is looking for. What you can do with it is to donate it to a local school, that way you can at lest get a tax write off for it. 0 -

Schools probably won't even take it. None of them around here will take anything older than 2 years, they told me it costs them too much to try to keep old stuff running. And that includes the private and religious schools. I have tried it.0
