Marlin XLR and a youth .243

Folks, I am in need of some information and suggestions. My brother has been looking at the new ammo - leverevolution - and wants to move up from his 30.30 to a .308. He would like to get the Marlin XLR so he can shoot the new ammo. I checked out the Marlin website and it is showing it in SS only. Do the have it in a blue finish?

Next question. He is also in the market for a youth model semi -auto .243 for my niece who shoots left handed. Any suggestions as to who would carry one? She will be using it mainly for deer hunting and it will get knocked around and brush scratched so don't need anything fancy. She is 13 y/o and has been hunting with the .44 Ruger my mom left to my brother. It is having some problems (again) with the firing mechanism. Pull trigger, no boom, slide safety, BOOM!

Anyways, any ideas?

    I am gonna buy a Rossi Trifecta for my Nephew, and the Niece behind him...Ambidextrous Break Action Single shot, with three interchangeable barrels - 20Ga shotgun, .243, and .22, all for under $300, if you look hard, easily under $350. Single shot is good for kids, Ambidextrous is cheap for multiple kids, and cheap is good for a Youth gun. Anyway, that is my reasoning.

    Thanks for the info. Brother really wants a semi-auto as this will be her hunting gun for years to come. Also, she is not a novice and has been hunting since she was around 4 or 5 y/o. Just always had a hand me down and not one of her own to hunt with. Since the Ruger went Tango Uniform for this last season she hunted with the M1 Carbine that belongs to my hubbie.

    Susie, Just about every gun builder today makes a youth model in 243, if she is going to grow alot there are many choices that will allow the gun to grow with her. The Weatherby Vangard Youthe actually comes with two stocks, one that has a very short length of pull and another that is almost full size. The Mossberg 100 ATR Bantam has stock spacers that allow for the gun to grow with the shooter. The Remington Model 7 Youth is another great choice for the smaller stature shooter. Most of these can also be found in a left handed gun, but it would need to be special ordered.

    I know that you were asking for auto loaders and I gave you a bunch of bolt actions, I just do not know of a new manufactured youth model auto that is left handed.

    Thanks for the info. I don't believe she will be getting much taller as we are all short statured in my family.[:I] So, What she gets will be a keeper.

    Only left handed ones i can find on the net are Bolt??

    Susie, I just wanted to let you know that I just recieved in a Left Handed Browning BAR Shortrack in 243, I didn't even think they made one like that. That bad news is that we have it priced at $969.99, so it might be too much to spend on an 13 year old.
