Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontier?
Anyone have any input?Mom and Dad are getting to the point that the suburban is too big,And drinks too much gas. They dont haul to much anymore,Groceries,Small Home Depot runs etc.I was told to look at both and return with my findings.I like the nissan(V-6).Havent driven the toyota yet.

Yes, I think it's very important to buy Austrian Clocks and send the money over there, than to buy Smiths and keep the money in America.
And you wonder why Winchester is gone.

Hey LOKO-NICE TRUCK! My '04 has almost 34K on it, no unnecessary decals, has a nice, powerful 6 banger that gives me an honest 28mpg even when I'm crawlin' through the Jemez after wood, and the durn thing DANCES through snow/ice/sand/mud like a water walker!
It's also the thinner model, so I can fit down those skinny bike/atv trails that leave jeep owners worried.
Only thing I don't like is the wheel covers keep falling off and disappearing; guess I'll have to break down and get fancy wheels!
BTW- the froggies DID kill their POWs; anyone remember Algeria?0 -
My grandfather, who owned the 1990 Nissan p/u I mentioned earlier, fought and served on Tinian. If anyone would have a gripe with the Japanese, it would have been him. But guess what? He drove Datsun's (and later Nissan's) since 1964! Said he had no gripes with the Japanese. If he, who fought against them, didn't, I don't either. I buy the best product for my money...period! 0 -
my friend has one of the older models, and he has driven it almost to 300,000 miles and swears he has only preformed routine maintaince, stater, altinator and spark plugs 0 -
A few years ago I needed a small work truck. It came down to Toyota or Nissan 4 cylinders because they have timing chains instead of belts. The Toyota dealer was a real d##k,so I bought a Nissan. The Nissan turned over 354,000 miles a few days ago and all I have done is keep the oil and all filters changed and put tires on it.A Toyota would have probably done the same, but I know a Nissan will. 0 -
I have a Frontier with 250,000 tough miles on it, hauling 1,500 pounds of gravel or a load of 2x10s up my mountain driveway. Never had a problem with the truck.
I had another one before this one, let my girlfriend drive it, she totaled it at 193,000 miles.
You couldn't build a tougher truck than a Nissan. They cost less than the Toyota, too.
Tell you what. Take a look in the paper at the used trucks. With those little Toyotas, on half of them you will see, "Engine rebuilt at 120,000 miles.... Brand new motor at 118,000 miles etc."
This tells me that the Toyotas tend to blow motors once they crack 100K miles.
I don't know how far you have to drive the Nissan to blow the motor.0 -
There is not a nickles worth of difference between the Nissan and the Toyota. Which one feels better. Think of it like a hand gun where the two are equal. Which one feels best to the driver? Buy that one and do not look back. My 2 cents [8D] 0 -
I own a 2004 Nissan Frontier and with 36,000 miles I have not had one problem. 25-27 MPG on the highway and lots of power. I would buy this truck again if I had to do it again.

But it's still a mini-van.
Yeah, I know.I went fron racing a Super Comp Dragster and driving a 500HP Camaro to being my kids taxi in a minivan, and you know what...
I like to drive the darn thing, especally when I beat some kid and his noisy honda at the stop light drags, at the next light I'll yell out "man, you car is slow, you just got beat by a minivan."[:p]
You'll have to drive the Honda Odessey. 255HP, moves like a scalded cat.0 -
Take reasonable care of either and it will last forever. My '87 Toyota pickup has 392,000 on it and my '98 T100 has 148,000. A friend of mine has an '86 Nissan pickup with over 375,000 and it's still going strong. My '87 still gets 32mpg and doesn't use oil. It just went over $1800 in total repairs. 0 -

Yeah, half burnt and almost dead.[:)]0 -
My brother in law has a Toyota pickup with just about 200,000 miles. The speedometer stopped working on Tuesday...at the time I thought nothing of it...just odd when he told me, and Thursday he parked it and called me saying it is bogging down....he doesn't want to drive it.
He figured the automatic tranny was about shot and was ready to sell the truck. All it needed was a speed sensor....matter of fact if we cleaned the contacts for the plug on the old sensor...he might not of spent one penny to fix it. The computer put the transmission in safe mode....3rd gear..since it didn't detect one speed sensor input.
He spent $140 for a new speed sensor...at just about 200,000 miles. Fixed. Cheap vehicles to maintain...compared to American quality products.
What American vehicle could go 200,000 miles on it's stock automatic transmission, fluid, and filter? His did.0 -
I'm presently driving a 2000 frontier & the wife drives a 2001 tacoma.
The toyota is three times the truck, in my BIASED opinion.

Our Politicians have sold our country, Why buy American when the foreign stuff is so much better, I have one American truck left and it will be the last. my wife drives a Honda and I mostly drive a 95 Toyota with 120k miles on it still drives like a new one. 0 -
Tacoma's are very popular around here - gals seem to like them, too.
My son's dating two - at the moment - with Tacoma's! Coincidence?
Perhaps - but they are pretty small and love them!

I know the Nissan's are made outside of Nashville, TN. Don't know about the Tacoma's. But I would imagine they are made here too. 0 -
My father-in-law is an aircraft mechanic who researches thoroughly before buying anything. He just bought a new Frontier. While that's probably not the last word for you, I respect the man and his brain, so I'd probably take his findings into account. For the record, it was a very tough decision between the Nissan and the Toyota. 0 -
I just picked up an V6 06 Frontier 4x4 a little while ago. Traded my 04 4x2 in on it. Got the same payment just added another year or so. Has alot more power -- 265hp.
Getting 18mpg city hwy. Haven't taken any long trips yet.
Nissan made me a better deal than Toyota.0 -

I have driven the Honda w/ 255HP and the Nissan w/ 260HP and the Toyota w/ 245HP, they are nice from a stop, but they all handle like pigs. My Mom has the Honda and I hate driving that thing. The main reason for this is that they all weigh so much with out giving anything else back in performance. It's like the kid I went to school with that had a 2500 series truck with a 454, it sounded mean and could really smoke the tires, but it only ran 19 second ? mile times. It just weighed to much fo the power given. In fact the Honda, Nissan and Toyota all weigh between 4200 and 4500Lbs empty.
My little Chevy only weighs 3200Lbs empty and has 200HP stock, but I have never owned a car that stayed stock. After installing a K&N cold air kit, high flow MAF sensor, free flow cat and cat back, larger fuel injectors and a reprogrammed ECU the venture also runs pretty darned good. Plus after the new stabilizer bars, graphite impregnated polyurethane bushings and adjustable KYB shocks she handles pretty well too.
So if you're looking for something that can smoke the tires go ahead and buy one of those 3, but if you want to buy a van that will back it up, look else where. I will not get into the fact that all of the "high horsepower" vans require premium gas or start at $40,000 new.0 -
The Frontier shares alot parts (Engine, Drivetrain, Doors, lights, etc) with the Xterra. I don't see very many of the new body style Fontiers on the road but I see tons of Xterras.
I get alot of looks driving the my Frontier.0 -

Let's see, out my own driving past....
78 Chevy Camaro, changed the trans at 275,000 miles,
83 Chevy Malibu, had the original trans when I sold it with 345,000 on the clock
81 Pontiac grand prix, trans changed at 225,000
88 Chevy Camaro, 280,000 when sold to a family member, still kickin at 340,000
92 Mitsubishi sigma, 1st trans at 50,000, second trans at 125,000, third trans at 200,000, then I sold it
94 Chevy suburban, 210,000 and still kickin (mostly long range trips pulling a drag car and gear)
Yeah, an American made car can do very well if treated properly, better than the foreign cars I have had to deal with, other examples from my family:
04 Chevy Venture (mine), 125,000 miles, the only thing I have had to do to it is to change tiers at 75,000 and breaks every 50,000 with oil change at 10,000. The only other maintenance I have ever had to do was to replace the battery at 105,000.
05 Toyota Senna (sisters), 30,000 miles (est), went through first set of front tires at 15,000, breaks at 20,000, in for alternator and battery at 25,000, now she says it is making noise that goes clunk-clunk-clunk? This replaced her 98 Camry that became a maintenance nightmare with only 75,000 miles on the ticker.
06 Honda Odyssey (moms), 10,000 miles, it has been into the shop so much for electrical problems that my mom thinks she drives an accord (dealer loaner car).0
