Machineguns-Reward to be offered.
TOLEDO -- It was meant for war, but some a dangerous machine gun is now in the hands of criminals, and the Lucas County Sheriff wants your help to get that gun off the street. Thursday morning, Sheriff James Telb and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will announce a reward to get the deadly M-60 machine gun back into police custody.
The gun was stolen last month from its federally-licensed owner in Springfield Township. Introduced to the military in 1957, the M-60 is able to fire about 850 bullets per minute, and usually takes a crew of two or three to use in combat. US armed forces around the world still use the M-60.
The owner did not want to go on camera but did say it took him eight months to obtain federal approval for the weapon and he kept it in mint condition. It was stolen from his apartment and trophy case. "I'm worried for the police officers out on the street right now, because real psychos [could] get a hold of these things," said the owner.
"[The owner] came home and found his back door kicked in and had a gun safe that had been pried open," said Detective Mark Woodruff of the Lucas County Sheriff's Office. Along with the M-60, the thieves took an Uzi automatic weapon with a silencer.
Woodruff says police officers fear they know where the high-powered weapons are going. "They'll probably be traded for drug money. So, you don't know who's going to end up with them," said Woodruff. That's why they are offering the reward.

I'd pay money to see a Pig in mint condition that can actually fire more than 5 rounds without jamming. My 60 gunner during one training exercise had to grab it by the barrel and whack it against a tree in order to get it firing again. 0 -

view the video on the bottom of the link. I do not suggest you try this type of firing of one. The barrel is gone. Send your money to the local food bank.. here is one shooting more than 5 rds at a time.[:D][:D]

quote:Zulu7 - Sounds likes that particular M60 had already been treated poorly, even before he "whacked it against a tree". I trained with the M60 at Camp Pendleton in the early 70's and did not experience problems unless a barrel overheated. In a fire fight, that is going to happen if you don't pay attention. On one particular occassion, I put six belts through in succession without incident. Then again, the versions that I fired weren't the ancient artifacts they are today.
It was probley the same M-60[}:)]
The M-60's we used at APG were as old as the kids taking the class, that was till we recieved the M-60E3, that was a great gun, but still not as good as the M-240.0
