Buying a house....wow the mess its gotten to be!
Realtor has their "contracts" saying who they work for and what they can and can't do for you.....the bank and all the hoops you jump through to get your finances dissected to bits....looking and looking and looking.....then looking and looking and looking.....finding what you desperately want then starting the game where you play like you could care less as you throw out numbers that make you sick to even say....inspections....more dickering....more scheduled meetings and in the end I have picked out what will be our new home and signed as many papers as I did when I went into the Navy.
We are buying the two story farm house!!! We got it for a good price and we are excited. Now for the mess we have to do to get moved in....fence for our dogs...replace and repair a few minor things...gravel delivered to extend the driveway out to the barn. Packing and all of the headaches with that bunch of mess. Its all very exciting and very frustrating at the same time.

I'm very happy for you.

I will try and get some pics so everyone will see the place BEFORE my three start messing with it. We are all VERY excited. My oldest has already packed. She doesn't realize it will be a while before we actually move.
Funny thing is.....we get the smallest bedroom. The master bedroom is upstairs. We would rather be downstairs in the one bedroom and have all three kids upstairs.0 -
good luck with the new digs! 0 -
[8D]-Well LF, I can't tell how many times I've done the same thing (New home, move),so don't feel like the Lone Ranger--
--One quick note, I know you're not in California, but your Mortgage papers will still have a section called "DISCLOUSURES), this is very important for THINGS that haven't been fixed (or talked about)-pay close attention to the the fine print--good luck-

Congrats on the farm house Locust Fork!
If you run into problems or need advice feel free to e mail me as I am in mortgage banking.0 -
Congratulations and good luck. I have been through the process four times, and will never do it again. If I ever buy another piece of real estate, it will be a cash deal.
I considered it insulting to be examined so carefully by an institution that stood to make several thousands of dollars on the deal.0 -
There's only one thing that's better than buying your first home ... that's
buying your last ... and I have bought me last. I'm happy/satisfied to never
have to go through all that foolishness ever again!

good luck! moving is one of the worst experiences you can go through! but well worth it. 0 -

Absooo-Lutely! The process was a tad degrading. At 5 percent on 225k or 250k, cant remember, over 30 years you end up paying the bank back something around 500k.... Thats go to the one of the greatest scams ever!0 -
I plan to get this paid off as soon as possible. We own our current home and just can't stand the feeling of "what if" when it comes to the roof over our heads. The bank is aggrivating but they weren't horrible about things. We were way under what we COULD have gone for...we went for the home you can see your grandkids in type of home and not the modern, huge everything new new new thing.
I just can't believe how many BOOKS I have!!!! Dang BOOKS.....they are heavy as all get out....boxes and boxes of them. Whoever I get to help me move is gonna hate me in the end.0 -

Very true David. We now have about 3 times as much labor in closing a loan as we did just a few years back. With all the forclosures the banks are really making their lending guidelines more strict.0 -
Hey LF!
I am doing the same as you are right now. Yes it's a pain, but don't get lazy, pay close attention to the details.
Exciting times, yes?
Congratulations!
Here is my new money pit -

I'm in the minority here. It has been six years since we bought a home, so maybe things have changed. Neither of us thought the paperwork was that bad. For the last three we used to local banks and one financial institution. None of them we a PITA. 0 -
Post some pics, LF. Congratulations and hire movers -- it only seems cheaper to do it yourself. And soon it'll be over and you just will be able to enjoy your new place [:)] 0 -
mat! it looks like a church inside![:D]
now, my house looks like the munsters house![:D]0 -
I'll be doing it, too, before much longer. I'm in the process of selling a house. Just like you except on the other side - just as frustrating, time consuming, headaches, etc. Except when all is said and done we have to move out after 16 years of accumulating stuff in that house and find another place to live. Right now I'm in a rent house that's little more than half the size of the house we're selling, and it's for sale, too, so even that could be jerked out from under us! And we have 2 more weeks until closing, I have no vacation time, my son gets married the weekend before the close, right in the middle of all the packing and moving, and... nevermind. 0 -
Congrats on the new space don't forget the horseshoe (ends-up). 0 -

Garage sale or auction time. Last time we moved, we had a auction. Saved on moving alot of stuff we didn't need any more.0 -

don't give him any ideals
congrats LF, i'm on #3, each one was a different nightmare, i never could understand the hoops a person has to go through to purchase a home, but can walk in a purchase a vehicle at 1/4 the price in one day0 -
I plan on getting some pics as soon as I can. I have no idea when our actual "move in" time will be. We are shooting for the end of this month to have the closing...but, since we have this place and no real plans as far as it goes its no hurry. I had thought of renting it out but after all of the nightmares I have heard about that I don't think it will happen.
I plan on getting rid of a LOT of stuff. I may have a yard sale at the store and let my kids run it one Saturday. I just can't wait to get into something we know we will be in for a long long time. Living here isn't bad....but since we have always thought it is temporary we haven't done a lot of "fixing up" that I've wanted to do. Like painting, carpet replacing, planting in the yard...you just don't do a lot of that type of thing to somewhere you know you will move out of eventually.0 -
Congrats LF! You should have a new house giveaway!!!![:D][:D][:D]j/k
I hope you enjoy it!0 -
Congrats! Lucky you have those teenagers to help with the moving. 0 -

VERY pretty....I love (what looks to be) Whiskey and a bowl of fruity pebbles on the counter! I can't wait to get moved in. We are new to all of this and I keep learning all kinds of things as we go. 0 -
Put brand new smoke detectors in on the day you move in! Get the 10 year type that you turn on and forget for a decade. 0
