Interesting take on immigration bill
My coworker is from India and spent about 3 years legally obtaining his citizenship, which he just got this past January.
He complains about how unfair it is that he went through a lot of hoops, spent a lot of money and did everything right to become a citizen but that the US was going to just hand it out to a group of people who have no intention of ever even trying to legally emmigrate.
BTW: He pays a lot of money in federal taxes, owns a house with ONE family living there and doesn't send any of his income back to India. However, he is happy that he will be able to retire to India and not here because he can also see where this country is going.

Not really a NEW take. Legal immigrants were reportedly very much against the bill for the very reasons you describe.
What it boils down to is we are SUPPOSED to be a nation of equal opportunity and a nation of laws.
How can things be equal if the laws aren't enforced equally? I'll tell what is IMO an interesting take. Liberals Democrats label Consevative Republicans as the party of "Big Business". Big Business is the group that lobbies for Amnesty/guest worker programs and lax enforcement of the border and Immigration law. Yet Liberal Democrats were the largest supporters of the bill.0 -

Legal immigrants go through absolute hell and high water in order to come here legally unless they are from the Fast-Track nation of Mexico which is an easy task to accomplish in less than 30 days legally.

Legal immgrants pay $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 in fees and costs during their approval process to immigrate to this country unless they are from the Fast-Tract nation of Mexico where the US Government, charity groups, and the Mexican Government ofetn time pay all fees and costs which are on a lower rate than other countries.
Legal immigrants must obtain a sponsor in the US who is a citizen or a legal alien permanent resident who can show proof and gurantee the US government that they can support and maintain their houselhold and that of the legal immigrant 125% above the poverty level for a ten year period unless from the Fast-Tract nation of Mexico.
A legal immigrant who is legally married to an American citizen receives no special treatment and may be deported at any time as with the rest of all legal immigrants unless from the Fast-Tract nation of Mexico.
Now, you may ask yourself, if Mexico is a Fast-Track nation then why are the majority of Mexicans coming to the US illegaly?
The answer: If here legally, they are not due the benefits from our social welfare system. Don't beleive it? Read it for yourself in black and white at your county courthouse for federal, state, and local public assistance programs and policies. Legal aliens in the US are forbidden to receive any social welfare beneits.0 -
Another thing that is totally unfair is that your indian co-worker got citizenship in 3 years.It took me 11 years after applying.I was made a citizen last year in September.I was actually told by an officer at the INS office in Santa Rosa a year before that if I had been,mexican,indian,chinese or irish I would have got citizenship sooner.Now that is not right. 0 -

gyln is probably from a country that happened to be on the "non-preferred immigration list" at the time his applications were in process. The INS "non-preferred nation list" is for either ethnic and cultural diversity in the number of immgrants coming to the US or to sanction an unfriendly nation.
Canada, Germany, Austrailia, New Zealand, and France are on the current non-preferred list. Austrailia is at the top of the list.0 -

I mis-heard him - he said it took 8 years total. 3 to get his green card and about 5 after that for citizenship.0 -
My wife's niece has been trying to get here for seventeen years. She just recently got a letter telling her that her visa had expired.
They could get a letter to her telling her the visa had expired but they couldn't get one to her telling her she had been approved.
All this time we couldn't get through on the telephone to find out anything & the web site said her application was still being processed.
Now do you see why people jump the line?0 -
BPA I am from the UK I would think that country is not on the list of unfavourable nations.Funny enough had to go back to London three weeks ago for a funeral.Tried my best to get a passport fast traked but just couldnt even get an appointment in the passport office.So I decided to go anyway and use my UK passport,had all my papers and certificate with me to show immigration.You would not believe the hassle I had getting back in the country.Yet in the same office I was in a man and his wife from india had come through without a visa,INS bent over backwards to help them.Incidently I was here legally for 5 years before I applied for citizenship. 0 -
Legal immigrants get screwed by amnesties all the time. The last one of 2001, I believe it was the L.I.F.E. act, put everyone waiting in line for the green card back 3-4 years because 900,000 illegals were granted a place in line in front of everyone who'd been waiting patiently.
So neither this attitude nor the govt. screwing everyone is new.0
