Texting While Driving May Soon Be A Crime
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Better not be texting your BFF while you drive or you could be DOA. Police in Eugene, Oregon, report Robert Gillespie was texting behind the wheel and crashed into a freight train.
Officers found him alert and talking, but trapped in his car early Tuesday morning. Authorities say Gillespie told them when he looked up and saw the train, it was too close for him to stop.
He's been charged with drunken and careless driving. Police spokeswoman Kerry Delf notes there are all kinds of ways to get distracted while driving these days.
BFF, incidentally, is best friend forever.
