How bout shotguns and criminals visiting wearing bulletproof wests ?
    [:0]

Shoot them in the head or blow their leg off. Also slugs don't care about vests. Even if he has a vest he will be DOWN!

12 ga shot gun, mosburg pump very dependable and they make their own sound when you rack one in the chamber, any bad guy hearing that sound most likely will retreat and you wont have to kill him and let the cops take your gun away from you.

I use sharp-edged sheets of steel, rigged above the windows like a gullotine. Whatever comes in first stays here. Good DNA evidence that way.

[8D]-Sounds like ZIP in Southern California and He already has a BIG MOAT nearby--

I have a perimeter of claymore mines with motion sensor triggers and a battery of 120mm howitzers for my home defense. I do believe this to be severly lacking, so I'm in the process of digging a mote in which I will place alligators and piranhas just in case.

With all due respect you must be new to the mind set of the gun grabbing liberalist.

Beg to differ from you, but I'm far from being a gun grabbing liberal.

It's time for a reality check.

Many US Jurisdictions (mine included) strictly forbid the use of "armas largas" (long guns) other than shotguns loaded with buckshot for home defense. Rifles are considered to be "offensive" weapons - even when used against tresspassers. That is to say, you cross a fine line between being a victim, and now turning into a perpetrator.

Another idea, but it will only work on windows:

Extend the window frame into the room, with a window on the outside and a window on the inside. The intervening space is a cage for venomous snakes.

No problem in Texas using a rifle for defense.

I'm not sure if I understand what your trying to prove to me. I'm for the shotgun. I wouldn't want to be in court being asked why I used an "assult rilfe" against a robber, but really when it comes down to it. I will do what ever it takes if me or my son's lives are in danger.
In my state you can use a long rifle.

In my house, whenever Dawnie and I are both home, there are a total of four guns loaded and accessible. Three are handguns and the fourth is a M16. I will grab the M16 if it is closest. It isn't the tool that matters, but the "totality of the circumstances."

nunn, by M16, you mean full auto?

Colt M16A1 is how it is marked. I have not fired this one full auto, but I did fire one just like it full auto.

How would one explain in a court of law the concept of self defense using an AR-15?

I'd stick to a Mossberg 590 loaded with 00 buckshot against burglars and save the rifles for zombies.

    I agree on the AR.
A pistol is best. I took LFI 1, and Mr. Ayoob describes the shotgun as best used as a barricade weapon from behind a locked door. The barrel can be grabbed easily, pluse the doorways of your home become an impediment. Try holding someone at gunpoint while dialing a cell phone, it's very tough to do with a shotgun.

depends om where i'm at in the house

    downstairs 1911

    upstairs g34

handguns are much more manuverable than a rifle or shot gun, if you have ever shot a speed competition with all three you will find out actually how much faster a handgun is in a cqb environment, even if the long gun has laser or red dot, with a ar or anything above over penetration will occur

Around my desk I have quite an arsenal. An AR w/3 100+ mags, an SKS w/hi cap mag, 870 police w/13rds avail, Rem 270, and several pistols. I'm almost always at my desk, and firepower by the bed is equally sufficient.[:)][8D][:)]

I don't understand? How is a AR-15 any worse then any other weapon when it comes to self defense? Alot of burglars are shot with deer rifles, 22's, ect.

I would explain it like this, "I heard a bump in the night and feared for my wife, children, and myself. My AR-15 was easist to reach so I grabbed it to defend my wife, kids, and home."

With all due respect you must be new to the mind set of the gun grabbing liberalist. They don't just stop at a court room door.
Remember the man who used a 10mm in the woods. The courts argument was 10mm is a man killer, so he must have just been looking to kill someone that day.

I guess down here in Texas we just have to much common sense. If someone breaks into my home I know they are a scumbag right off the bat. How much of a scumbag they are I don't personally know and refuse to take a chance on. I don't know if they are there just to rob me or rape and kill my wife and daughters. In my home I just won't play around at all, there is way to much at stake.

I've never heard of someone breaking into your home to clean your house or leave a 100 dollar bill on your table have you? I know they are there for bad reasons and they had all the chances in the world not to be a scumbag. With what the house is defended with makes little importance. Besides a shotgun is FAR FAR more devastating in a home then any rifle.

Where I live there is no duty to retreat, and no local or State restrictions on the weapon that you use to defend yourself. If I kill a bad guy that is trying to break into my home the Deputies will give me a cup of coffee (or a shot of Bourbon) and offer to help clean up the mess[:D][:D]
