spotting scopes
What kind of spotting scopes do you all use at the gun range? I'm looking to buy a new one , since the one I own now is over thirty years old and useless.[:D][:D][:D]

While at the range we had probles zeroing in our optics at 100 yards. We talked about getting a spotting scope and have no idea which one to get. We are looking for something that doesnt break the bank. got any ideas? 0 -
Found myself in need of one, back in CA was able to rent one at the range for $2, so never got one and never researched them. Does anyone have any advice on what to look out for or maybe a suggestion of a brand/model and all that?

hey guys and gals finally bought my first gun a sks and i have been looking for a spotting scope and am so lost its not even funny there are so many and so many specs with them and prices from 30-100000 so what do i look for and what should i pay for on i am using it in clear weather at the target range from about 50-150 yards thanks Eric 0 -

So far I've been reading some articles all around on optics in general and some reference on opticsplanet, seems like they make sense.
As for the range, I am not sure myself yet. I am shooting at 100 right now but I know I will be extending that significantly once my M25 is ready, so from what I understand to spot anything over 200 yards I will need at least an 80mm. It looks like I'll have to drop some significant moolah on a scope that'll work beyond 300...

A lot of companies thsse days make fine spotting scopes. My range scope is a '70's model Bushnell Spacemaster that does just fine, and the newer models have better lens coatings. For birdin I use an APO Leica with florite glass, probably a little over the top for range work at $1600+. Burris and Leupold make compacts that are worth a look. Check Eagle Optics website and Bear Basin as well to have good comparison pricing, then look for sales 0 -
for 100-200yds, my low end scopes work well. For bullet holes at 300-??? you will be in the $1000+ range, no way around it. 0 -
Go with a good name brand and look for a used one. They usually carry a lifetime warranty no matter who owns it. I bought my Leupold MK4 used from GB for $500 and that was around a $1000 spotter new. 0 -
I use a cheap Barska scope (~$70) and it works decently at 100 yards. 0 -
Well, after reading up on it and figuring out the need I think I am going for Burris Landmark 20-60x80mm. 0
