Duke Prosecutor On Trial

Investigators say there wasn't enough evidence to bring indictments against lacrosse players, so Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong could have his law license suspended or face permanent disbarment on charges he mishandled the case. Seligmann, one of the wrongfully accused lacrosse players, is on the stand right now. He has been detailing how this whole bogus charge ruined his life and reputation. Watching his mother in the audience is heartbreaking. I hope the prosecutor swings for his errors in the case. This is just more proof that most people are guilty in the public's eyes well before the burden of proof has been established. Kind of reminds me of the GB forums. [;)]

    Nifong is just a symptom of a broken, inept legal system populated by people with no integrity or sense of right and wrong. I have no faith in the Law, Lawyers or Legal and Justice community. They have become too inbred to function properly with any unbiased view of normal common law or decency. Only the coming revolution will correct the situation.

    I told you that he would be prosecuted. There aren't many evidence codes that he didn't break.

    I saw Nifong on the stand. He looks mighty nervous.

    What a lying jerk, pandering to the black community of Durham, ruining 3 kids' lives so that he could get re elected.

    We will see. Lawyers don't send lawyers to jail. We will see. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.

    If he isn't convicted, it will be one of the largest miscarriages of justice in out history.

    This is not a criminal trial, it is an administrative hearing conducted by the NC Bar. There is no possibility of jail time.

    Of course he could face a criminal trial, but I can not envision lawyers sending one of their own to jail.

    The lawsuits should take every penny he has!!!

    Yes, as I understand it, he is currently shielded from lawsuits due to his former standing as DA.
    If this hearing goes badly for him, he will lose that shield.
    Then the college boys' expensive lawyers will turn on Nifong like mad dogs.

    "Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of law."

    So he could quite well wind up disbarred, and broke.
    I saw film of him going out to get the mail a few months ago, he has a very nice house there in Durham. Probably has a nice car too.
    One thing I learned from the OJ debacle, Nifong's pension is immune from civil suit.

    He still is the DA, and the Bar can not remove him.
    A criminal conviction would do it.

    Not really true. If the Bar suspends his license, he will have to resign because he must have a license to hold the job. It will also open up a criminal liability and massive civil liability that should take everything he owns. That in itself would extract some level of justice, but he needs to be behind bars too.

    Nope, it is an elected position. He could not practice law, but he could still run the office.

    Read somewhere that the NC Attorney General said according to state law, he has to be licensed or resign. I don't live in NC, so I have to try to find facts through the media. Not the best way considering they either outright lie, or don't know what the heck they are talking about. We'll see.

    Well, I got one wrong, and got one right.
    He still was the DA when I wrote the above.
    But, the hearing went badly for him, and he is the DA no longer.
    Here come the BIG civil suits.
    Hope you also get disbarred, Mike Nifong you punk.
