Deer hunters: Public service announcement

Today is opening day for deer hunting in the southern tier in New York State. For those city-slickers who have never seen a real deer, I am offering these photographs for you to print out and carry with you. Please do NOT shoot a cow and strap it your hood so you can show your buddies on Wall Street what a great hunter you are. And, yes - I have seen that happen.

    I too have seen german shepard dogs and jersey cows on the hoods of cars headed back to the city. There was a deer check point on 17 headed to the city that checked all deer and they found 3 dead jerseys and one horse. We had to paint COW on the side of our cows so that the city hunters would not shoot them.

    Too funny, Spider. I live in the Northern Zone and we have had the same problems up here. Never heard of a cow though. It was a goat. The sad thing is that it happens at all. How stupid do you have to be NOT to know the difference.

    I was Up North Michigan last year and this guy came in to the Bar saying "Man I just shot the biggest darn deer I have ever seen". So we go outside to take a look and what he shot was an ELK![:0]. Some peoples kids!!

    Anyway, you guys have a good hunt. I have a friend that lives near Mexico (NY). He has some Reeaalllyyy nice deer down there.

    Back in 1983 the "Check-in" station for Cass County, Mo was at the Sheriffs Office. We had 2 African-American guys from the city (Kansas City) come in all excited from their first ever deer hunt. They had shot some farmers large horned goat. The Conservation Agent tagged their kill and sent them on their way. It was tough to keep a straight face.
