? for you trucker types
What is a rough estimate of the payload(net) on a 105,500 licensed tractor/flatbed setup? Can one get 35 tons on? Maybe a touch more?
Thanks in advance for any input.

concievably yes, you could get 70k# on a newer lightweight trailer/tractor combo, HOWEVER That is an oversized load, necessitating piles of permits, running time restrictions and Multi million dollar liability bonds......
Max is 80,000 gross on regularly liscenced otr trucks. Unless you go legal, it'a a fine PLUS a buck a pound overweight fine......
I got popped in a Tri axle sand dump carrying 82,550# in Alabama......$7960 bucks ($300 fine and $7660 weight penalty.....got chewed because by the scales, I was 30 sacks short of full....yes the company paid the fine immediately.0 -

I used to load dumps here with lead/zinc concentrate. We worked
pretty much around the clock, and sometimes late at night the drivers
would get plum crazy with the weight they would haul and speeds they
would travel.
One night, wee hours of the morn, one driver left with 112k and made
the 1?hr turn-around in less than an hour. I asked how fast he was
going and he said, "I dunno, looked down once and was doing 135".
Then a few other drivers showed up and it turned into a contest. I
was loading one long dump, had him at 135k, when he asked for "one
more bucket", I shut the loader off and went to the house. Luckily
they loaded themselves and hauled rest of the night w/o incident.
Believe it of not, a truck loaded with concentrate can take these
extremely curvey roads roads far faster than most any pickup or car can even think about. Of course, I've had to clean up several messes
because the epa really frowns on mangled trucks and many tons of lead
laying beside the road.[;)][8D]0 -

As a 40yo 3rd generation truck driver I have been in the cab of alot of trucks. I have never seen a truck speedometer that could read 135MPH, and very few that even read above 85MPH.
So take that as you will, but I smell some BULL!0 -

Not always true. I got caught being about 5000 over on a tandum carrying hazmat(gas cylinders). They let me go after giving me a ticket for over weight and incorrect manifest. Officer told me the ticket would be about $1000. Company paid for it. The boss told me after he went to court that the fine wasn't near $1000.0 -

[/quote]There is a difference between being over gross and being over on a tandom.
They are not suppost to let you roll on a over gross untill the weight is off. On a over on a tandom you can slide them to correct the weight and then be on your way with a ticket in hand.[;)]0 -
I wasnt over gross, over on tandums, but with a tandum axle straight truck you do the slide. 0 -

You got lucky that they didn't make you shift the load or take some off. They would have been well within the law to make you do so.0 -

This may be, as I can't recall ever having looked at this
trucks speedometer. But this truck was a cream of the crop (KW?) if
I remember right, and unless he dumped his load in the woods somewhere
he would've almost had to hit those speeds to make it that quickly.
Then again, knowing what crooks this bunch were, there' no telling
what may have really happened with that load. Hmmm.0 -
If your overweight with a load of Cattle & they have health papers , the DOT HAS TO LET YOU GO or send you to the nearest set of Fed. Certified Unloading pens, the problem with that is there is only 1 set in the Cont. US and they are not even open. {KC,MO at the Airport}
But yes you will get a BIG ticket. In Mo. the fine is as follows $80.oo for the 1st 1000 lbs, & .10 cents a pound after that. + court costs.
If you have a wreck & your overloaded & someone gets killed its Manslauter & in Mo. they will ask for you to spend time in the pen.
Not really something that I want to do.

Like everything else there exceptions such as trucks with farm plates. With a farm plate you are restricted to travel within the state lines(Louisiana), and on the interstate your loaded speed limit is 55mph. Although repair cost tend to rise 100,000+ loads (35 ton+ payloads) are pretty common. 0
