It was a mistake to ever let females guard males and vice versa.

Prisoners Nabbed After Female Guard Killed

HUNTSVILLE - Two inmates working in prison field overpowered a guard Monday and ran her over in a stolen pickup truck, killing the woman as they fled, prison officials said.

One inmate was apprehended within an hour; the second was caught just before 2 p.m. near Huntsville following a massive manhunt by law enforcement agents in the air, on foot, and on horseback.

The second inmate, Jerry Martin, 37, had been imprisoned since 1997 and was serving a 50-year sentence for attempted murder out of Collin County. He was captured hiding in a tree in a wooded area less than five miles from the prison near Raven Nest Golf Club on the city's southwest side.

Martin and John Ray Falk were working in a field outside the Wynne Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice just north of Huntsville when they overpowered the officer, grabbed her weapons and escaped in a Huntsville city truck that was nearby, department spokesman Jason Clark said.

"They ran over the officer," Clark said. "We can confirm she did die."

The name of the officer was not immediately released.

The escapees later carjacked a woman outside a Guaranty Bank in Huntsville and stole her red pickup, according to police.

She was taken by ambulance to an area hospital to be checked out. Her condition isn't known.

There was a shootout between the escapees and officers near the bank, but they got away.

Falk was captured within an hour and both stolen vehicles were recovered.

Martin remained at for several hours. He was shirtless and shoeless when caught, wearing only a pair of white shorts.

Martin was serving 50 years since 1997 for two counts of attempted capital murder out of Collin County.

The former Celina resident was convicted of firing a .38-caliber revolver at several sheriff's deputies and state troopers during a high-speed car chase in July, 1994.

Police said a domestic dispute preceded the chase and a subsequent standoff in a field northwest of McKinney.

Martin would have been eligible for parole beginning in November, 2020.

hey, if you are serving life in prison then escaping is worth a try. however, they killed a guard and now they have been caught. i dont want to pay another penny housing these worthless scumbags. i say take them back to the prison, give them their last meal and hang them.

If they had they wouldn't have been assigned to a work detail outside the unit.

They're both now facing capital murder. In Texas it doesn't matter that only one was actually driving.

    +Eleventy-billion to what Nunn said.

Worse than NO backup in the Prison is FEMALE backup.

Believe it or don't, here in AZ the Death Row prisoners actually sued to be allowed prison jobs and outside work details. They lost.

    No shyt.
