what is a good price
to have a barrell replaced on a universal 30 carbine? I have the rifle stripped to the barrelled receiver and will supply the barrell just need it installed and headspaced, any ideas?

There was an old guy in Central new Mexico that ran a surplus joint called,"Old Sarge's Surplus"; but I haven't been through there in years, that used to specialize in M1 Carbine barrel-swapping.
I'll see if I can find out about whether he's still in business.
I think he used to charge $150 to swap one from a Universal to a GI-type, but I figure that's probably close to what you would expect to pay a competent gunsmith to do it for you.
If you're mechanically inclined, it's not all that hard unless the timing of the threads is off, or the headspace is so small you need a lathe. It's possible without those power tools, but a hacksaw/dremel job just looks ugly.0 -
I charge 175 and like new universal bbls with their special gas block are available for 105 ea. Oh, and my price includes test firing and insured return shipping.
