What Is/Are The Best Movie(s) You've Rented Lately

We like movies. We have always liked going to the movies. Recently, we have been
renting some pretty good flicks, too!

Gale likes 'chick flicks' and I tend towards everything else - except 'very good'
chick flicks!

She rented Miss Potter the other day - story of Beatrix Potter, author of Peter Rabbit
and the greatest children's books author in history.

I rented Seraphim Falls - excellent - and Days of Glory - very good war flick about
North African Muslim colonials fighting with the Free French in North Africa, Italy and
France. It filled in a gap for me, showing something else, other than the American
experience in W.W.II - such as soldiers wearing sandals in snow fighting in late '44 -
until they took the boots of dead German soldiers. I think many here would like it.

    ive seen pirates of the carribean 3(decent) The number 23(very decent) but i still find myself watching taxi driver!(maybe one of the best movies ever made?)

    For Father's Day, I got Flags of Our Fathers' and Letters From Iwo Jima ( for those who are confused, it is the island we now call Iwo To) in a gift set with an extra DVD of special features stuff.

    Really good.

    Didn't rent it, someone gave it to me, but last night we watched "Beowulf and Grendel". Good movie with with very good no-name actors.

    "Beowolf" is a great epic poem. I once read it in German - along with my sweet, very friendly German tutor. Blue eyed and flaxen haired Aryan beauty, born 20 years too late. I think we got to page 3 before we became utterly distracted.

    The Ring was pretty good. Basically another ghost story, but was well done enough to keep the suspense going. Little bit corny, but, what scary movie isnt now days.

    crank was hilarious, but caution on violence, and sex, lots of action

    lucky number slevin was good, but don't move or you'll miss part of the plot

    the illusionist was very good

    the guardian good

    stealth good

    pulse, stay alive, decent, the black dahlia, all the kings men,
    16 blocks, eragon, all ok, and watchable


    the marine sucked

    the departed sucked

    Children of Men was pretty good, Crank as said above, as well as Lucky Number Slevin. Smokin' Aces was pretty good unless you're looking for accurate gunfights.

    I don't have to rent! I got stacks and stacks of dvd's. heh heh.

    "The Song Remains The Same" (Led zepplin) was pretty good.
    Hamburger Hill was pretty good.
    Kill Bill 1&2. #1 was awesome.
    Ghost in The Shell part II was great.

    I'm going to check out Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima, even if I have to rent them.

    "SHOOTER" - Mark Wallberg.. I think this is my new favorite movie..

    Oh - not rentals though.. I buy, and don't rent.

    I went to see Pirates 3 in theaters

    I don't rent movies. Most of the new crap is crap enough that I can wait for it to come to Starz. The few I really really like I can afford to buy

    zip, i somehow know that you and your wife are the kind of people who would appreciate brilliant writing, so rent "stranger than fiction" with dustin hoffman and will farrel.
    its a great example of writing in the tenses with a twist.
    my wife and i enjoyed it.[^] my wife is a playwrite. so, i knew she approved when she stood up and applauded when it was over...in our living room.[:p]
    so, from one couple to another...get it.
    and think of bobski and his better half as you watch it.

    Thanks, Bob ... I'll take you up on that. Really liked Hoffman right out of the gate as an actor never forget Little Big Man and other early films ... BUT ... he once sat in front of us at a screening of Bergman's last movie, in La Jolla.

    Right in the middle of the movie he stood up and ignored everyone behind him who protested that he sit down - he was blocking a lot of views for his small size.

    He was frantically scribbling in a loose leaf notebook - an inspirational moment, I suppose.

    Finally after about five minutes a big burley guy came down to his aisle and dragged him to the center aisle, where he continued to stand and draw more fire from other movie goers!

    The ushers finally came down and 'escorted him' up to a back wall - where he stood scribbling for the rest of the movie - about 20 minutes.

    As an actor Hoffman's good - as a 'normal human being ... he's been reassessed by Gale and I!



    Nice to see Decon's still consistent.
