Bear Mountain in White. I went by yesterday to buy a few goodies and saw the sign on the door. I called a friend that knows the owner better than I do. He gave the details about the losses in the housing market. Sure does stink.

I don't see how this is a failure of the housing market. From what you wrote the shop was losing money by itself.

    First rule of small business:

Make sure the business can support itself, without constant infusion of funds from other businesses you own...

Sounds like their Gun Shop business was just an enjoyable sideline/hobby since they were supporting its non-profitability with a very profitable housing market business. That's risky, but it's a commonly used approach as long as the business model holds up, which apparently it didn't. Too bad!

At least maybe you can get some good deals from inventory closeouts..

Don't know about where you guys are at but around here there are tons of new homes just sitting on the market and not selling. I'm guessing that they had to do away with the gun shop to be able to pay back the loans they took out to build the houses. As far as the shop being able to support itself I'm not sure it had been open long enough to make a return on the investment. It hasn't been open for two years yet.

It is too bad though. However I would gladly help liquidate their inventory for them if I could get in contact with them. I'll see if our mutual friend can hook me up.
