7024 Welding Rod?
Does anybody know where you can purchase 7024 welding rod in quantities 10Lb.s and under, 1/8"dia or smaller? Everybody wants to sell me 50# or better at a whack!!?

I dont what to sound like a smartass but have you tried a welding supply store?
Its not as popular as 7018 but its worth a try.
Let me konw if you cant find any local and I will look and see if we have any at the shop I work at and maybe we can work something out.0 -
Jet Rod![:D] Oh man, had about 50 pounds of surplus 5/16" 4 months ago I would have given ya, it was left over from a job. Love that stuff makes a nice bead and the slag just cruels up behind it with no chippin. Any weld supply can order it for ya. Works nice for welding long flat runs. 0 -

So what makes it crap? the operator behind the stick[:D] Gotta run the stuff hot- Yes its not multi-position, but on flat plate it will run just as nice as 7018. Bet I have burned at least 500 pounds of the stuff and it works fine in the RIGHT application.
If you can run that stuff, then 6011 is for you.0 -
I always thought that 6010 was the easiest stuff to weld with.

6011 ha 6013 is way easier to weld with Never meet anything that couldnt be welded with a 6013 rod of course on some of the farm equipment i have seen a brase would of been better. 0 -
The welding supply stores around my area won't sell me anything less then 50 Lbs.! Funny, they'll sell me smaller quantities of other rod! Be that as it may, IF I need to look on line, so be it! I use 7024 when I'm working on light gauge sheet metal, as noted it make a REAL CLEAN weld bead! I like 6013 and even 6011 ...for heavier stuff. I have yet to get any 7018 that's good! Sounds like I got the DC stuff, and of course I have an AC buzz box. Yes I understand they make a 7018AC rod, but haven't tried that, and am kinda soured on it now anyway. Problem is I like the 7024, why would I change, I know it works!? ...Other then I can get any? *G* THX for the help! 0 -
have you tried 7013 its is a good light ga sheet metal rod 3/32 and you could weld a pop cans together with it. if they where a true weldable metal. Besides If your never going to change just buy 50lbs of it and be done with it then you wont go through this again the next time you want a stick. that whooie about it going bad is just that. i worked iron for 10yrs and never saw a piece of rod go bad just sitting on the shelf and collecting dust

I am a welding instructer at the local community college. I can tell you that any job you have that requires an E7024 electrode you can likely accomplish with an E7018 which are easier to get in small quantities. They even make an AC7018 which allows you to use them in an AC "buzz box" or alternating current. An E7018 requires DC electrode positive to perform properly. I'm not saying one is any better than the other, because they each serve thier purpose. I'm just giving you options. Good luck! 0
