I found a few boxes of these in my safe from back in the mid 90's. If I remember right, I think they were outlawed a few years later. Can I use these for self defense legally?

you seem to be pre occupied with what type of ammo you use, i think black talon is decent stuff, but what it comes down to more than your ammo choice is shot placement.

I carry it in my P89DC. Works just great.

It was never made illegal, it was just withdrawn due to bad press. It is an ok round, but there are better out there, as it is now a bit dated design.

Of course its legal to carry in a 9mm auto, why would'nt it be?

Black Talons are just another hollow point round. They are more of a collector round now since they are no longer made. The Winchester SXT ammo has replaced it.

Who would you rather get in a shootout with? An unskilled buffoon with a Glock 23 with black Talons, or a deadeye gunslinger with a .22?

It is my understanding that this bullet is still made they just changed the color and that wicked name.

    Sure it's legal to carry.

It is decent ammo. Became legendary once it was withdrawn from the non-Leo market. A couple buddies used the .44 mag for deer hunting and were not real impressed with it.

My problem with using it I do not use any load unless it has proven to be 100% reliable and I have 200 rounds of it though any firearm I intend to use for my house gun.

I'd run out of money before I could do that with this load.

"I'd rather be missed by a .44 Magnum, than hit by a .22."

The first thing in our ccw class we were told lawyers will hammer you if you use it for self defense. The name and the hype is what the problem is, you know how lawyer can be they would say it was over kill. Doesn't make sense but I'm not going to chance it and I hope I never have to find out.[:(!][V][xx(][:(]

Handloaded, "specialty" or any other kind of ammo type has never been successfully used in the prosecution of a lawful self-defense shooting. The CCW course instructor bought into the hype and the crap that Ayoob spews in the gun rags.
