Just got my new Rock Island Double stack today!
Hi ya'll! Just got my new Rock Island double stack .45 today! Shoots great. I put about 250 rounds through it before taking it home. No problems at all. Yee Haw!!!!

Groups were around 2*1/2" overall, low and center. The price after all taxes and fees was $489.00 0 -

13+1 I don't know if they make a short version of the double stack, but I carry a single stack RIA with a 3.5" barrel and the shorter grip frame like the Colt officer's model 1911. Great gun and only $369.00 at the time. The single stack officer's comes with a six round mag, but I use a Chip McCormick seven round officer's mag. 0 -
Couldn't you hang the short slide on the standard frame ??

Dust cover on front of officer's frame is shorter. The longer standard dust cover might cause a problem but not sure. 0 -

What kind of hop up parts are you wanting? 0 -
Diferent trigger, extended mag release, and new grips(nice pretty wood ones[:I]). I don't like the grips all that much. The rest of the parts are standard 1911 interchangeable. 0 -
I have a Para double stack that I like and know what you mean about the grips.
They are very thin too so I was wondering about how wood would hold up being so thin is why I have left the plastic on mine.0 -
MVP, I have some exotic woods at my disposal. If I can't buy a set of grips I will make some. If they hold up I'll let you know. No charge if they work okay. 0 -
That sounds like something I would like to see.
Almost any double stack 1911 I have seen have the black plastic.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but, I think the reasoning behind the thin grips on Double Stacks was to try limiting the overall size of the pistol butt (Width).
I do have a Para LDA and can appreciate what your saying about thin grips.0 -

Been looking at them, I'm a firm believer that them "cheap" RIA's are fine firearms for the money and only have 4 of them[;)] Let us know after you've shot it how you like it. 0 -
I can report that the double stack shoots groups averaging 2*1/2" at 25 feet with me shooting two handed. It would probably do a little better with a better shooter. I have always been better with a rifle plus I hate those G.I. iron sights. May be looking for replacements soon. No jams or other problems to report.
My next purchase is an Armalite AR30M in .308/7.62. My dealer is checking price for me this week.0
