"Smart " gun
Anyone know where development of the "Smart" gun is at this time?
It's been a while since this was a hot topic for the media (bless their pea-pickin hearts). I googled the subject and saw a guy from South Africa came up with an interesting approach - multiple pre-loaded barrels , a la pepperbox, with caseless ammo. When you're out just replace the preloaded barrels. This does away with the mechanical operations of firing pin, safety, eject and load. Bet those pre-loaded barrel/magazines won't be cheap though. BTW this announcement was at least 5 years old.
I'm asking because I sense an economic opportuntity. I have some ideas and a friend to make a prototype.

Make all the smart guns you want. I'll stick by the old, reliable technology so that I don't have to remember to wear the ring, or my wife can use it in an emergency, etc.
The idea behind smart guns is good, but there are far too many quirks to work out in the meantime for it to be a viable solution to anyone aside from LEOs.0 -
Law/military would of course be the market for such.
And that's one BIG market.
I can't help trying to turn a buck. Need it to buy those other toys.

Law maybe, military? I wouldn't be so sure.
In a war situation, the gun I'm assigned would be my primary tool of choice. But, what if something were to happen to my weapon? What if, unfortunately, my buddy is killed and I need to use his weapon? Do I want to take the time to take the ring off his dead body and put it on my hand? I'd be severely limiting myself if all I could use was a smart gun. It would be far easier to pick up my dead buddy's weapon and start using it immediately rather than having to go through the whole rigamarole of field stripping my own or trying to figure out how to get his to work.
There's several marketing hurdles that you'd need to overcome in order to make this work right. But, the safety/use concerns are going to be your biggest.0
