Question for you gun shop owner types:

When you buy a used gun (or receive one on trade-in) do you demand that it be clean? My 1911 is a used gun, and when I picked it up today, the very first thing I had to do was clean it.

It just seems like a courtesy thing that the previous owner should do before selling...

    Its like a used car, when you bring it in for trade, you trash it as much as you can and still get your money for it.

    Would buy/trade dirty, but sell it looking the best I can make it look. (Clean)

    We take them in as the come in. If we will need to send time, which is money, it will cost the seller.

    I've bought them both ways, clean and not so clean.

    Bought a Tec 9 for $125.00 that looked like it had never been cleaned!
    Cleaned it several times, and test fired it -- no problems.

    Bought an AK brand new, called it the jam master. Had to have it worked on by a gunsmith friend, after that it never jammed.

    Was given a Llama 1911 clone in .22, it jammed no matter what, even my gunsmith couldn't fix it so I gave him the gun to use for parts or whatever. Last time I was there, it still jammed!

    I prefer people bring them in dirty. I beat down their price because of it.

    I don't care either way....a gun is what it is...not like anything else on the planet. I can get the same amount out of a dirty gun as a clean one....Colts and Kimbers are not going to depreciate because of a little dirt...and you can't polish a turd....so, its the same either way to me.

    Doesn't matter to me I tear em down and clean them myself before I head to the range anyway.

    Buy them any way they come in paying accordingly.

    Clean them up, test fire them and price accordingly.

    The difference is profit. I like lazy firearms owners.

    Locust Fork: In Maine we do not polish turds. We varnish (deer and moose turds) and sell them to the tourists.

    Actually, that's not true. I polished the hell out of a Lorcin L380 and sold it for more than I purchased it NIB.

    I defy anyone to tell me that a Lorcin (anything) isn't one big gargantu-turd.
