If my crimal justice classes paid off at all I want to say its in the neighborhood of 30-40 thousand. More than to pay for a college student years tution and room and board.

The least expensive annual rate I've heard is $17,000 but most states spend more than $25,000 per inmate, some a great deal more.

I had read that for death row inmates it averages over $60,000.00 a year.

I hear it is cheap to keep a person alive than execute him. My response was "So?"

I believe the figure is around $56,000.00.

I remember my Criminal Justice professor saying that it was about 30,000 a year; and two to three times that for death row inmates

I truly believe incarceration is one thing the US SHOULD outsource. I don't think many criminals would be as eager to go to a mexican or maybe Russian prison as an American one and the cost would be 1/10 or less.

In Texas the state says the average annual cost for housing a general population inmate is $16,000. A death row inmate cost them $22,500 per year.

It should be noted that the cost for drugs used in an execution $86.08. [;)]
