Chicagoan burns through 191 jalapenos in 6.5 minutes to win $2,500
CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago chef Pat Bertoletti blazed a trail to victory today, eating 191 jalapeno peppers in 6.5 minutes to win $2,500.
The 22-year-old Bertoletti beat out 16 competitors at the La Costena (coh STAIN' ya) Feel the Heat Jalapeno Eating Challenge on Chicago's South Side.
Second place went to 100-pound competitor Sonya Thomas, who ate 141 peppers in the allotted time.
Organizers say the contest was supposed to last eight minutes but ended at 6.5 because competitors burned through the 1,400 jalapenos provided early.
Competitors came from across the globe, including Austria. Three were from Chicago.

Just don't stand behind any of the participants for a week or so. While vaporization is painless, it is a horrible way to go. 0
