Strong accents on the other end of the line just make it easier to know it's time to hang up. (But, of course, you can 't when you need help as you did.)[:(]

I usually have no trouble interpeting accents, but when they're so
thick I can't, I have no problem asking to speak with someone I can
    understand.

I was serving a subpoena at an office yesterday and the receptionist spoke very broken English??? Did these people interview her and say "wow, no one will understand her, lets put her up front"!!! I don' get it.

For many organizations, it free advertisement that they support equal opportunity employment AND diversity. What better place to convey the message than with the first person you meet or talk to?

Many of the telephone persons who have a strong accent are from India. More than likely you are actually talking to someone in India when you inquire about your VISA or MC. People there work for less than people here. Much of that employment has moved. Another advantage to many businesses is that people in that portion of the world work (daytime there) while we sleep (nighttime here). Work that is sent over one afternoon is completed and waiting on the computer when you get to the office in the morning. It is the way of the future. And the future is here.

I like when customer (lack of) service for a particular company is called and a guy named "fred" is on the line with such a thick accent and in India you know his name is AHHKMED or some derivitive of a throat clearing sound..............
We have room in this country for one flag and one language!

Have a friend that originally from India (now an American citizen) called the 1-800 number for his credit card, wound up talking to "Phred"- who had a THICK Hindi accent. When Al started ttalkin to him in Hindi, the customer service rep freaked out- "I must speak in English!".

    Stupid Joke: Indian Telephone Operator
Mujibar was trying to get a job in India.

The Personnel Manager said, "Mujibar, you have passed all the tests except one. Unless you pass it you cannot qualify for this job."

    Mujibar said, "I am ready."

The Manager said, "Make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink and Green."

Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said, "Mister Manager, I am ready."

    The Manager said, "Go ahead."

Mujibar said, "The telephone goes green, green, green, and I pink it up, and say, 'Yellow, this is Mujibar.'"

Mujibar now works as a technician at a call center for computer problems. No doubt you have spoken to him.

    Hello yes this is Habib

How may I serve you this phone call?

Oh thank you for calling with most impressive problem.

Please give me moments so I can look this up.

    (wait 20 minutes)

Are you there still on the phone?

I now know how to fix your problem. I will walk you through these very easy answers and therefore providing you with most excellent customer service as I have been trained to do so by my manager, Habib.

First, you take the xyslkasoxemizer and hook it to the qwetjnlertomatic capacitor. Once the two of them are together, the qwetjnlertomatic capacitor plugs into the kjhatiuhasionic flatulation device.

Thank you for allowing me to assist you this fine evening, and if you have any questions, my service badge number is 7464337998753379923467494969832767957953567386957807054352780.

    Have a nice evening.
