Home protection... are ya ready?
I read all kinds of posts. Lots of people ready to fight at any time. I have no problem with that because it wont be me they are fighting.
Here is my question. When everything goes bad and you grab your gun to fight back, are you prepared to get shot? Hurt in any way?
In my mind I know due to physical limits I will more than likely get shot, if it comes time to shoot I plan on shooting first and with any luck I have not yet used up, I will stop the other pesron from shooting. In reality I am very slow, awkword, clumsy.... or I am in a slow moving wheelchair that takes one hand to drive. So I would be willing to bet I am going to get hurt, how bad who knows but it will not be a surprise. I know what my body can take, been messed up a few times. I know that if my arms work and I can see I am still capable of defending my family.
How many of you have a plan for dealing with injuries? Do you have your mind set to fight REGAURDLESS of what happens to you?
For me, my wife and kids are worth the possability of me being killed, not that I will go out quietly. It is just that it is my job to keep them safe and I plan on doing that at any cost.

If I am home alone I am much more likely to take up a defensive position but if my family is home with me somebody is going to die. I am both willing and capable of taking a life. The goal, of course, is to not get killed in the process...
BTW guns are not my 1st offensive option. I have 2 dogs that have demonstrated a great enthusiasm for defending my home and family. One sleeps with the kids and one sleeps next to me. I realize they didn't exactly sign up for the job but one of their responsibilities is to draw fire while I bring the heat.0 -
Most people have the mindset of surviving a gunfight. You have to develop the mindset that you will WIN the gunfight. 0 -
You gotta have the warrior mentality that no matter what happens you will win. In a gunfight there is no substitute for victory. You gotta be prepared to do whatever is necessary to survive the encounter and that means you don't quit. No matter how bad your chewed up you keep on fighting until the threat is eliminated. 0 -

I'm pretty much like you, Dave, in that spending most the time
in a wheelchair. But I spend most of the day at my desk..which is
surrounded by a decent amount of firepower.[:)]
I also have motion detectors and cameras around the property too, so am
somewhat prepared if need be.0 -

I don't think anyone can be "prepared" to get shot.
I can say, from my own limited experience, that in such a situation getting shot was not even part of my thought process.
IMO, your best bet is to prepare for the aftermath of a shooting. Have a fully-stocked 1st aid kit (a good one, not the sponge bob model) handy and make sure everyone in the house knows some basic first aid.0 -

Good point. I have always relied on adrenaline for intense situations. I never feel anything until after a situation (I've never been shot though).0 -

Depends - who or what am I defending? If it's just stuff, no, I'm not going to die for that. I'm not going to kill for it either. Now if I'm defending family or friends or even helpless strangers, you bet I'm willing to get shot, punched, kicked, stabbed, etc. because if anyone wants to kill or rape around me, they had better pray to God their butts are bullet-proof because I won't stop pulling that damn trigger until they stop wasting air. 0 -

i remember one late eve, i had been celebrating a bud birthday, slightly sozzled ,got home & went to bed..i though i heard a noise , where it should not be.i checked the kids , asleep,checked the dogs, all ok..huh!.
i picked up the 410 pistol, went to look (pie eyed) & blasted a hole thru a door where i saw a figure,in the half dark.. then realized, it was me on a varnished door..(mirror image)[:D]

If it's a "Night of the long knifes" situation, they won't take Vortigen 's men by surprise this time. However if there truly are evil-minded rogue-elements bent on destroying the Constitution, they may just drop a JDAM on you and say it was a terrorist bomb, so I try not to think about it...

I am armed at all times even while sleeping, (a few weeks of sleeping with an M-16 in your sleeping bag will do that)
The children I know about are mostly grown up now,
I got a measely two weeks of basic medic training, (I know that ain't squat but better than nothing) my big concern is all the troops who aren't really fit enough for long road marchs, so blisters and shin splits are my biggest concerns right now. as in a guerilla war you'll have to march 100 miles just to fire a few shots then a retreat march. Pistol on the mousepad? Now, if I did that, WHERE would I put the clacker for the claymores? [:p] Seriously, the concept is a LAYERED defense. My first layer is about 300 meters beyond the house. IF I get down to the point that I am using a handgun for defense inside my home, I have made several grievous errors in judgement to reach that stage. And yes, our basic intruder plan is to bunker up, wait, and anything that comes thru the door without a badge is gonna have a real bad day. And do I have EMS type supplies? Durn straight. I guess for me, The thought of having to defend my family or myself is quite clear and the stakes are too high not to plan for such an event and while no one can predict the out come it is important to mentally prepare yourself for confrontation. It should be also noted that an assailant will stalk his victim before attacking and when you are at your weakest they will attack! It is simple predator- prey ideology. I do not advocate paranoia but being aware could save your life as well as your loved ones. si vi pacem, para bellium or pray for peace, prepare for war!! 0 -
Due to my location I can expect at least a 15 minute response time for law enforcement or emergency medical care.
Yes, I'm prepared to take care of my family, property and self. About the same level as those who'd sit on a grand jury in my county.0
