Chevy Cobalt
Anybody have one? Am starting to look for something for the wife to drive. Since the kids go to private school, we are the school bus, am looking for something that gets good mpg.

Rented one once. It was brand new and POS 0 -
is the atomic wieght of a chevy cobalt 58.9332? 0 -
I've heard mixed reviews, but the bad outweighed the good. Beware of it's crappy Ford counterpart, the Focus. 0 -

More interested in mpg.0 -
Focus has made it onto Car & Driver Magazine's "10 Best Cars In The World", nearly every year since its' introduction.

Then it was the rental agency's fault or something, I rented one and loved it, I wouldn't mind owning one. Nice 4door, 6cyl. quote:Originally posted by big800

Several coworkers have them, bought them for commuter cars. They are all pleased with them.0 -
Read Consumer Report. They also report on used cars. Then you can make an informed decision about what car to buy. 0 -
the cobalt is a good little car, but if your folks want a bit more power they can go with the cobalt SS, 220HP and it still gets 32 MPG 0 -
Piece of crap. Get a freakin Civic and get over the BS you're afraid everyone will feed you. 0 -

And what facts do you base your "piece of crap" statement on?
Here are some reviews from car people that actually tested them:

Get a Malibu. Seriously, I have one, it is a real car, has a V6 in it, and it gets close to 40mpg on the highway, high 20s/low 30s in the city. Tons of power/torque and a lot of fun to drive, plus you don't get scared that you'll wind up being squeegeed out of the vehicle if you're in an accident. 0 -
+1 on the civic, theyll run up to 220k easy, minor repairs here and there. 0 -
+2 on the civic. All you have to do is change the fluids, brakes every 50K, and tires. Im at 167,000 without any problems. Great mpg also. 0 -
the civic is the kind of car you can buy with 120k miles on it and still not worry its gonna die on you. I think it must be the 4 cyclinder engines, they must run real easy or something, the motors dont seem to tear themselves down to easily. 0 -

I disagree; Being in the auto industry supplying tooling I can see Honda stagnating at times living on past glory. Conversely; FOrd and GM are fighting to stay alive and doing a good job designing cars America wants.
The Chevy Colbalt is a very well build and designed MODERN car. So is the Ford Focus. You will find that looking at all the features and beneifts of the Ford or GM product will make you very confident in purchasing one.
PS; I think the Malibou is a great looking slightly larger car and can be purchased well below sticker.0 -
I will spend a couple thousand more and get a Toyota or Honda. I have four Hondas. If I want to get rid of them I can get my $2000 back then over what the Cobalt will bring. 0 -

My Chevy has gone way more miles than that, and I don't ever worry that it will die on me. It runs as well today as when it was new.0 -

Nunn, im not knocking american cars, most are great. I was looking at hondas for about 2 months and then got a saturn. too good a deal with low miles and i had to have it.0 -
Saturn is good too. My mom's Saturn has close to 200K miles and still going strong. Actually, they are all good cars. IMNSHO, you can pick a new car at random, such as in a drawing, buy it, and with the correct maintenance, it will run 200,000 miles before giving you any major problems. 0 -

Im glad to hear that, ive put close to 400 miles on mine since ive bought it. No problems yet(fingers crossed)0 -
My bud has a highly modified jeep for off-roading so he needed a more economical and reliable car for a daily driver.
Toyota Yaris! 38mpg overall or better is what he gets. You can get one under $15k out the door.
It is almost cheaper for me to get one for commuting that continue to spend $275/month for gas for my Charger.0 -

they need to be able to fit kids in whatever they buy though,
the Yaris looks awfully small in the back seat department0
