    big deal, since the PC patrol has banned real (read: fun and dangerous) chemistry sets the young folks have to MacGyver ways to blow stuff up.

    At least they are not dealing drugs or running with gangs. In my book blowing up stuff in the countryside is a good pasttime. (Of course being a chemist I am biased)

    Are not the fumes from a Chlorine/alcohol cocktail lethal?

    I am not too sure what they put in, title says chlorine and milk, I think, I don't speak froggie. I guess they meant bleach when they say chlore, but I am not sure.
    I am assuming that it was a buildup of chlorine gas. It IS lethal in higher concentrations, but probably not with their amounts and the distance from the explosion. The kids were also on high ground compared with where they threw the "bomb" so they should have been safe. I've been exposed to a little bit of chlorine, not enough to cause damage but enough to make us leave the room. Somebody was trying to get a stuck valve open on a cylinder and let the gas loose in the machineshop while I waas chatting with a friend in the storerom next door.

    It is not the kind of toy I would recommend building, a dry ice bomb or liquid nitrogen bomb is the safer bet. Still less dangerous than the bozo who put live rounds in a vice and hit the primers [xx(]
