Sharpton is gloating on NBC.........
NBC decided it would be in their best interest to drop Imus entirely. Al Sharpton is gloating about it now on the NBC morning news. What a piece of work (and yes, those were the last words that came to mind)! He and Jackson need a reality check and should get off their high horses. Although Imus clearly made a mistake, he's apologized at great lengths. This story is the perfect example of "making a mountain out of a mole hill." We've got much more serious matters of actual importance to address in the world. [V]

Well, what Imus said was beyond stupid. After that many years on the air, I would think that "nappy-headed hos" wouldn't make it past the internal filter that most responsible broadcasters develop in their heads.
But I'm sure that Sharpton is pleased as punch that he was able to get a man fired for saying something he (Sharpton) found objectionable.
I've had the same thing happen to me in this tiny market. Luckily, the station was owned by a man who was even ballsier than me.
Bottom line:
Imus was an idiot for three seconds and it cost him a gig.

As for Imus, I watched his show five or ten times, a few years ago. He was a rude, arrogant jerk who criticized anyone and everyone, he loved to call someone a "moron."
I disliked the way he constantly mumbled into the mike. A talk show host owes it to his audience to speak clearly. His garbled speech was barely intelligible. I did hear him remark that he had done lots of drugs "in his youth," so maybe his brain was so fried that he had lost the capability to speak clearly. Or, more likely, he did it on purpose. This was the main reason I quit watching his show, it was really annoying to hear the man mumble.
I was always surprised at the celebrity journalists and politicians who appeared on his show. It seemed too low-brow of a show to attract such people.
I did learn this week that his show was very profitable, and brought in at least ten million annually for MSNBC, and that it brought in over twenty million annually for CBS radio. So he must have been getting paid at least a couple million bucks a year.
What a dumb ass to toss off such a stupid gratuitous insult and throw away such an income.
I watched him groveling to the sleazy Al Sharpton on Al's talk show, and he looked like a beaten and humiliated man.0 -

Probably be better to ask Sharpton about the dropped charges of a phony kidnap and rape of a young black woman by a group of white men that made Sharpton "famous" and thrust him into the national spotlight and gave his notoriety and power. That would be the Twany Bradly story that was later proven/admitted to be a lie and a hoax.
If that lie had been insigated by white society against a group of black men, the careers of the whites who were guilty of that lie would be over. Instead, in the usual perverse actions in certain ethnic communities, Sharpton is not only powerful and famous "leader" but even tried a run for the US President office.0 -

The First Amendment has nothing to do with what Imus said. It protects an individual or group from being prosecuted by the government for protected speech. Imus has not been charged with any crime. It does NOT apply to the private sector. Try calling your boss a flaming A-hole and see what happens. A lot of posts get "poofed" in here for the same reasons.0 -

Throw Jesse Jackson in to the mix. Another hatefull racist just like Al Sharpton. Both are far a worse cancer for America (and the Blackcommunity) than Imus ever was.
People get real!! Imus preaches stupidity (look at his record), not hate. He did not attack those girls or say anything out of anger or hate. What he said was wrong and distastefull to the extreme; and yes he went too far. His comments would still be shocking if said in a bar, but I think they were said to be shocking and outrageous - but not out of racial or sexist hate from the core.
Both Jackson and Sharpton have racially attacked whites, greeks, jews, etc., and have purposely used hatefull sppech directed at them. That is wrong and hurtfull
I in fact have more respect (I had none before) for Imus in how he dealt with the situation. Imus accepted all the backlash like a man and apologized. He didn't run or hide. He is an old guy and probably sick of his own show anyway. I don;y think too many people will miss him.0 -
Never paid much attention to Imus until now.
Here's my opinion about the situation:
Rutgers isn't an easy college to get into and those girls worked hard to accomplish their goals as athletes and as students.
These girls aren't living on the street and selling themselves to the highest bidder and don't deserve to be treated as such.
If my daughter was on the team and he insulted her, I'd be ready to take his head off and wouldn't need Sharpton or Jackson's help.
Imus will either retire or end up on satellite radio.0 -
