gun build

My son and I are thinking about building a gun from a kit as a project. We have pretty good working knowledge of firearms and basic shop tools ( drill press, vice and the like but no milling machine) any of you guys got a suggestion as to a kit that is not to expensive and also fairly easy to get a reciever for. Any help will be appreciated.

  Any AR15 or 1911 style firearms do not usually require power tools to put together.

  AK47. Parts kits are plentiful and cheap. And as long as you avoid the Yugo with the 'bumps', receivers are also very inexpensive.

  You don't need any special equipment for these....maybe taps....drill...dremel....welder makes AK assembly easier....[:D]

  If you guys want to just assemble a firearm from parts the AR15 is a good one and it you want to actually do a build useing your tools and skills the AK47 is a great project.

  This being the voice of experience with over (10) Yugo builds to my credit, I can tell you that is one of the best kits available for the money. The M70 fixed stock, or the AB underfolder are both interesting & easy to build with a few simple tools. Do a search on this sight for receivers and you will find DCI has them both available. If you can follow pictorial diagrams, every thing you need is available on the web. Most difficult task is removing barrel from font trunion. However, a 6" two jaw gear puller does an excellent job for this. And by the way before the arguments start about strength, all of my kits have been assembled with screws and zero failures. Holes are already correct size for tapping. Good luck & ASK QUESTIONS.

  For a straight mechanical gun, the AR and M1911A1 are good starters.
  
  If you have an artistic flair, a muzzle loading rifle is best.

  I have built two Walther P-38/P-1 Pistols from Parts purchased from E-Bay and Gun Broker.
  Not hard at all and when you are done you have a great shooter,Of course the historical value is not there but all the same it is fun.
