How Many Here Have?
Just curious to know how many on this forum have served in the US Armed Forces, or have or have had family that has served or is currently serving?
Allot I'm guessing.
I myself have never had that honor.
My dad was a two tour Marine in Vietnam, and my brother is a Marine serving currently in Iraq.
Just curious, but I bet numbers show, most all here talking on this post have a hard earned stake in this country.

Dad: US Marine, then Army after his third tour in Vietnam
Younger Brother: US Army
Older Brother: US Army
Younger Sister: US Air Force
Adopted Sister: US Air Force
ALL of my Grandfathers and my wife's Grandfathers served in WWII, ALL of my uncles served in either active duty, reserves or National Guard on both side of my family. All but one of my cousins served in active duty and the one that didn't make it couldn't go because he is deaf in one ear. 7 of us took part during the Gulf war. I have 42 veterans in my family that have served in the past 3 generations. 12 of us have a service connected disability and we have lost 2 in the line of service.

I tried to join but got denied due to GED during Bill Clintons presidency. My brother was a MP US Army. My dad was Army during Vietnam. My grandpa was one of the first to hit Iwo Jima and survived it, he was a Marine. Numerous cousins, uncles and others were in all branchs or are still in.
I still want to join if I can pay my house down so I don't have to make as much money.0 -

Uncle Harold died at Pearl, uncle Bill Navy & dad Army during WW-2. Old Jeff, Army in the mid 60's. 0 -

My grandfather served WWII and Korea in the Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
My father is a Vietnam Era Veteran (although never in country in Vietnam) in the Army
My Uncle is a Vietnam Era Veteran and was off the coast in Vietnam in the Navy.
Me and my brother both are Desert Storm Veterans in the Army.0 -
My dad and brother retired from the USN.
I retired from the USAF in Sep 2007.
My son is in the USAFA.0 -
My dad's dad was in Europe and North Africa in WWII. - Army
Mom's Dad was in the Pacific - Navy
FIL's Dad was in the Pacific, saw some nasty stuff. - Marines
MIL's Dad was in Korea.

My dad and a now-ex-brother-in-law were/are Marines. My brother's a police officer. I joined the Corps at dad's "suggestion" when I was seventeen, but despite an honorable discharge I can't claim that the term "the few, the proud" applies to me. Various friends and more distant relations (one cousin has done two tours of duty in Afghanistan) make the military something personal to me, as does a knowledge and appreciation of my country's history.0 -
Dad did Korea. I served 1975 to 1978 Army and one year in the Guard. All peace time for me. My Half brother served during Nam but wasn't sent there. I have two cousins one went Navy one went Air Force.
No one serving at this time that I know of.
Dad passed away a few weeks ago. Thanks again for all the wonderful words of condolence and encouragement . I appreciate all of you that responded to that post.0 -

"the Big One," Dad was in the Navy during Korea, his brother was Navy for Vietnam, baby brother was Army tanker first trip to "the sandbox."

Hi Folks, just got logged in, wanted to post on the new member forum and introduce myself but there is none.
so here goes,
yes, i served in the USN joined 1955 retired/fleet reserve 1977, spent all my time as a plane Capt. and reparing those noisy jets, i hope this forum does not require a DD-214 ! i was banned from another forum for not providing one for proof of military service.
i served one cruise on the USS Randolph CVA-15 with VF-173 we had the FJ-3M's, the USS Oriskany CVA-34, VF-161 F3H-3M "Screamin Demons", USS Kitty Hawk CVA-63, VF-114 F4J Phantoms
and lastly USS Coral Sea CVA-43, VF-191, F4B Phantoms.
plus four tours in VF-121 at USNAS Miramar Calif.0 -

USN_Airdale, Welcome to the board. I don't know of any requirement to show a DD-214. In fact most of the folks here are a little gun-shy about posting their name and service/social security number. We used to have a couple of members who demanded proof that you were over 60 years old and had at least 22 years of service before you were allowed to have an opinion on anything, but one of them has retired from the board and the other has calmed down a lot since the other one quit.
All you need here is an opinion on everything. It's not necessarily required to be logical. [:D]0 -
My grandfather was in the Army in WWII (just like 16,000,000 other people) my dad was in the AF ROTC in college (never graduated so he was never commissioned.) That's about it. One of my best friends is a lifer in the Corps and served almost 2 years carrying a rifle in Iraq. 0 -
i was in USMC from 99-06. With 2bn 4th Marines, E co in the initial invasion on Fallujah Iraq. After a short trip home, returned to the Anbar province and spent a short while with 3/8 in Ramadi.

Grandfather served in the Army during WWII as did my "step" Grandfather (purple heart at Normandy). Biological father served in the Army (purple heart) and my step-dad (read Father) served in the Air Force during Vietnam. As you can see from my sig line I spent some time in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club. 0 -

Joined the army, got kicked out for bad knees- they dont like people that cant run.
Little brother was in the navy for four years on the USS Forrestal working on EC2 early waring planes.
Dad was in the army during Nam as a tracked vehcule mechanic.0 -
