Tamed me a dragon today (Motorcycle topic)

SUBMARINER
Went to Deals gap N.C. today and rode the world famous Tail Of The Dragon..U.S. 129 at the Tn and noth kakalakke state line is reffered to as the dragons tail 318 curves in 11 miles..first time down and back was uneventful 2nd round leaves me wondering how i have any floorboards left on my bike[}:)][}:)][}:)][:D][:D][:D] all smiles it was well worth the 2 hrs it took to get there very pretty area and V E R Y challenging technical ride anybody else interested they got a website [url][/url]www.tailofthedragon.com

    There's a show on TV called SUPER BIKES where they did the ride. Have a buddy that went there last year and he said it was great. He's got a Road King and his son a sporty. The zing splats really move thru the turns but many, many go down every year driving over their limits and pieces of their bikes end up on the "Tree of Shame"!!

    I wanted to take the Miata there when I had it. It was a Nardi Edition, with the ultra tight suspension, but had a really tall final drive ratio.

    Deal's Gap is about 7hrs from us. Running 75 on the Interstate in it turning 3700rpm didn't sound like fun.

    I almost trailered it there. It was a pure road car.

    Now I want it back. [:(]

    there were places you could go over 35 but there were places that 35mph would have sent a hyabusa out of controll

    have wanted to take that ride for many years...even have a sis in ga. to blame the trip and "detour" on, but never have the time and $$ at the same time...(keep spendin it on guns and related gear[^])

    Did you notice all the car/bike parts in ALL the trees on the way down?[B)] My wife got sick on that ride. I like the shirt at the giftshop that said "Ride Illinois,11 turns in 318 miles"

    We try to hit Deals Gap and do the Dragon's Tail at least once every two or three years. If you own a bike, and you're a competent rider, you need to do Dragons Tail at least once in your life.

    The only Harley that would do well on this type of road is the Buel or the V-Rod. They are both designed to take the curves fast and have a high road clearance.

    The regular Harleys are cruisers, very low to the ground and have lots of stuff that will drag. I have ground off my muffler brackets and dragged my footboards on my curves on the Oregon backroads.

    I have watched many in the HOG club dig in their pegs and spin out on high center curves. I now slow down and drive like the old man that I am!

    Raising hell on the curves are for the sportbikes and the young at heart! Have at it youngsters![;)][;)][;)] To do this stuff on a touring Harley is to dance with the devil!
