I have been sitting here thinking of the day my mother passed. I was called from work and was told that it seemed she was in a bad way. I traveled the short distance (200 miles) to be with her. My father had been watching her for a long long time and I told him to get some sleep. She died while I was watching her. Not only that, I decided I needed a cigarette and was outside when I noitce (through the window) that something was not quite right. I will never forgive myself for that. I can not believe I was so flippant with my mothers life. I know I did not take her but, I should have been there to see her go..

Sounds as if you are blaming yourself for something that know one could have known or did anything about. Rest assured that she was comforted enough with your present, so she could pass as she only wanted you there for one more time. You know that she is with you now as she is smiling down on you from Heaven. I'm sure you did her proud. Be thankful for her, and God Bless!

    She is not gone:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

It is very common for us all to second guess our actions when we lose our parents or spouses. I was not with my Mom when she died or my Sister Christmas Day. But I do know death is something we do by ourselves and we all want our children or spouse to carry on and love life with new gusto as a result of our passing.

Your Mom would want you to live life in the moment and realize as a result of her death that life is short, oh so very short, and you must enjoy the "now" and not wait to do all those things that are important for you to do before you pass. Buy that Harley, if thats your thing, visit Hawaii, Tahiti or your dream destination, tell your wife you love her several times per day and give her instructions that if you die before your time to find another companion and enjoy her life.IMHO[:)]
