Got My C&R License today

Well, I got it finally. I'm ready to order a couple of M44's. What do I need to do to stay legal.

I know I have to keep a record of what I buy and when I get rid of it. What needs recorded and what is the best way to do it?

Also, My brother in law wants one too. I'm sure there is a loophole that lets me get one and give it to him. He's paying for it but no one has to know that if it matters.

    See cruffler.com for some info. Your bound volume is used to record acquistions (you got it) and dispositions (you got rid of it) You want to record date recd, make model, SN, from who, at what address. I use a stitched journal book I picked at at Dollar general, and lined out columns with headings. They sell for a dollar.

    get M38 instead, M44 is ugly and bayonet lugs adds to its inaccuracy. Better yet get a good 91/30, k98 and k31. Oh, and SKS of course [:D] Russian 1950 is the s--t!

    Apparently I did recieve it, Steve. I didnt realize it. I Was going through old emails looking to see if I had gotten it, and there it was.

    I can't open it though. It's a .docx file and I have no clue what that is.

    Can you send it in a different format?

    You don't have to have the record books to keep records....its just a "cleaner" way of keeping your records. Notebooks are fine. Keep your reciepts, and log in your guns....give them a number and hang a tag off of them showing their inventory numbers so you can find them in your records.

    One hint....messy records are harder to find mistakes in.....but I am not saying you should cover mistakes in piles of messy paperwork. Nooooooo

    to HK...is your M1917 Winchester C&R? I know about the 50 year rule, but what's all this stuff floating around the forums about the originality [unaltered] issue?? I'd like to know, if you have the time, as I eventually wish to get a C&R. Best, Joe

    And please tell me how a boyonet lug will cause a rifle to be inaccurate?

    I have an M-44 and it happens to be VERY accurate! I keep everything well inside of a pie plate out to 300 yards with the standard sights!

    I can understand if you do not like the looks of the bayonet, but to make a false statement about accuracy because of bayonet lugs is just obserd!

    yes it is c&r. from what i was told when i called the local batf is that the if the gun is more then 50 years old it can be modified and still far under c&r

    You need to become very familiar with their web site as you will need some of the tools and supplies that they sell.

    357 --- docx is a Word 2007 document. You must use Office 2007 to open it.... perhaps the nice guy that sent it to you could save as older office format or convert to a PDF file....

    Careful with this. Your transactions are supposed to reflect 'improvement of the collection'. You can probably sell to him after a period of time and say you needed the $$ to buy another firearm. Many states allow person-person transfers, withing the state to state residents, without an ffl. Check your local listings.

    I've been recording my transactions on an excel spreadsheed embedded in a word copy of the pfr. It's MUCH easier to use and then I print it and place in a 3 ring binder. I will email to you, if you like or to anyone else who would like to try it.

    Yes, I would like to try it if you dont mind. My bro in law is in the same state and is legal to have a firearm. So does this make it ok to give to him?

    Dear S&W...
    I sent another email with the pages for a bound book attached. And then I saw your second note that you'd received the first one but couldn't open it. The .docx is the new extension for Word documents done with the new Vista operation system. I've tried to convert it back to just plan old .doc, but then a window popped up and said that I may loose some formating. Please let me know when you get this second email with the .doc format. And let me know 1) if you can open it and 2) if it looks ok. Finally, after you get your book together, let's see what you do for a fancy cover, a good collection deserves a good bound book!     Make sure you get a couple of SKS rifles. Sure to increase in value. I remeber getting real decent ones for $89. Now they are $139. Real fun to shoot too.

    Check your state website under firearms. I am in VA where two residents can buy/sell firearms without an ffl. This is not true in all states. C&R does not allow you to act as an ffl, but only to purchase qualifying guns, without using an 01ffl, and to sell to other 03C&R or 01ffl. Again, you are not engaging in commerce, rather building a collection. Your transactions should reflect that.

    got mine and have yet to buy anything[:(]...i know an sks...m44 and a shooter k98 are on my want list....i just have a problem justifying them to the wife...[:D]

    FWIW, thre are a dozen or so wholesalers that like to do business with C&R folks. Some places give ANY FFL holder a discount. Send them a copy of your C&R with a note asking them to put it on file. Then get ready to stay broke- but well armed!

    You can print a Bound Book from the Internet and Have it Bound at Kinko's or Most anyplace like that. I had Mine done at a UPS Store.
    Yes You need to enter Your purchases in the Book and also when You sell one.
    The funny thing is that if You decide to not renew Your C+R License You just destroy it as there is no requirement to turn it over to the ATF like a full FFL needs to do.
    You are only allowed to purchase C+R Weapons for Yourself and cannot make a living buying and selling them.
    You can however sell one to get rid of one you dont want or to purchase another to build Your collection.
    All this is covered in the Manuals You received with Your License.
